Mice or rats

Just back from a lovely half term away to find a number of droppings downstairs. Sorry to be explicit but some are quite long - up to an inch or more but quite thin.
any good products / suggestions for getting rid of mice / rats

From the size I’d say rats. We have a rat issue and have just spoken to a pest guy (who sadly can’t solve our issue). He said normal snap traps with peanut butter, chocolate spread etc. He said leave for a week before you check unless you hear it go off. He also said they like biscoff!

Need to try and figure out how it got in too - that’s our issue. We are a Victorian terraced house, multiple entry points!

We think we have found an entry point in our downstairs bathroom around the toilet soil pipe. Very old house. DH has gone out to get some ‘poison’ and bait boxes. We have also read that wire wool can be used to block the gaps.
DH is away from Monday for two weeks and I am feeling terrified.

Droppings sound too big for mice. Can you hear any scratching in the walls, under floorboards or banging in loft? If you have a plastic hose into your toilet (rather than solid plastic) check that - they nibbled through my Mums and apparently that a common entry route.

The chap my Mum had out from pest control was brilliant - he charged a one off fee and covered everything whether he needed one call out or ten. I think it took five to be sure they were clear. As they got in via toilet hose, she paid extra plumber to repair and also for pest control to installf a trap to be put in the sewer - lets out waste, but prevents rats and flood water entering via that route.

Our posts crosssed. It's really worth getting the trap I mentioned - my Mum had her problem around 15 years ago and they haven't returned.

we haven’t heard anything but have been away this week.
Think I will be contacting pest control for help. The thought petrifies me. Rats are a real phobia for me.

Oh bless you. I’m terrified of rodents too. We’ve caught three over the past 9 months so pretty sure we don’t have an infestation but also have no idea how they’re getting in. A family member is friends with an ex pest controller who swept the house and had no idea how they’re getting in so we’re stuck really. Get your snap traps down and hope it’s resolved soon
