I have a few like this, they're called seborrheic keratoses. You need to get them checked though as the only way to tell is with the special imaging they use.

Staceys128 · 28/10/2026 14:25

I had it checked in 2024 and she said it’s fine but it’s like a butterfly shape and different shades of brown and my skin texture just doesn’t look right xx

I have the exact same thing and it has been looked at twice and it is fine.
The consultant told me that it is not raised at all so nothing to worry about.
Obviously get it checked out but try not to panic

Has it changed shape at all since you had it checked? That's the main thing you need to keep an eye on, if it starts growing or changing colour.

Always best to be on the safe side though.

If you are worried, get it checked. I have metastatic melanoma and I would say the most obvious sign a mole isn’t okay is how fast it changes. If these have been the same for many years and no change, they are probably fine. If they have changed rapidly, more worrying, get it checked.

My original melanoma came from nowhere (no mole there) and grew to about 2cm in size in a year. It didn’t look anything like your photo. I was originally told in a skin check by the GP that it was nothing. It continued to grow and became obvious it was something.

Most of us have lots of moles and the ones you’ve had forever usually aren’t anything to worry about. It’s the new ones and the ones that are changing very quickly in appearance that are worrisome.

Melanoma is one of the fastest growing cancers in young adults under 50. It’s always worth getting it checked because if nothing else hopefully you can be reassured.

HappyViewer · 28/10/2026 15:59

Get it checked, I send photos of mine to my GP surgery and then get a referral to get them checked out.

I know it is horrible.
Obviously still get it checked but try not to go.down a rabbit hole over it x

pinkdyno · 28/10/2026 16:53

OP I also have two like that, all fine.

I also have anxiety, and to make you smile clicked on this to offer advice about moles destroying the garden 😂🤪🫣

Opporty · 28/10/2026 16:59

Get it checked, get it checked, get it checked. It’s totally OK to get a second opinion - and you will be able to rest easy. Worrying about it won’t help anything and no one can diagnose you on Mumsnet

Definitely do! If it’s nothing, hearing it again will help. If it’s something, then being on the path to treatment is far better than not. It’s going to be OK.

i had one, had it whipped out - now I don’t have to worry about it any more.

Staceys128 · 28/10/2026 18:43

I can’t breathe I put it on the skin vision app and it comes back saying this I’m so so worried now

Checking moles/ skin changes is always sensible, especially when they are clearly causing anxiety, often it’s simply a case of the GP checking, sometimes, especially when it’s over a certain size, it’s a quick photo to the dermatologist for their opinion, seborrheic keratosis is not uncommon and is benign, but just get it checked

Staceys128 · 28/10/2026 18:57

I’m scared because the skin vision app as said that what I’ve just posted I can’t stop shaking

well if it has the potential to develop into something it isn't something yet so make an appointment and they will remove it and that will be an end to it.
My DH had one removed 6 months ago and that came back as having the potential to become cancerous but as they had removed it he didn't need any further treatment.
Will you be able to see the GP tomorrow ?x

Anything has the potential to turn into anything. I think their answer is the equivalent of 111 telling you to go to A&E.

To get moles properly checked out you need to be seen in person, so make an appointment with your GP and she will refer you if she feels it’s necessary.
