Nut free snacks for kids (bought not homemade!)

My son needs to take snacks for his after school activity, but they must be totally nut free (they can’t even have the “may contain nuts” warning that so much stuff has).

They won’t be refrigerated, need to be individually wrapped, and I want to buy suitable snacks not have to make anything!

Any suggestions? So far I’ve only identified Kit Kats, but I’d rather give him healthier options along the lines of oaty bars/flapjacks, crackers, dried fruit?

Yogurt coated raisins
banana

also you could get those ice blocks you freeze and put one at the top and one at the bottom with the snack in the middle of one of those zip round lunch boxes maybe??

to be honest my kids are starving after school and thankfully my childminder does lots of various snacks and a hot tea option too. Do the after school school not offer any food options?

Soreen bars are made in a nut free environment.

HubertLaneIsMyNemesis · 28/10/2026 12:56

This seems like madness and I have a child who is anaphylactic to peanuts. It’s really, really difficult to get foods that don’t say ‘may contain’ on the packets because it’s so very difficult for a company to guarantee this.

There is a company called Kinnerton that makes nut free products.

Fruits is a good idea but yogurt covered raisins that have been made in a a factory that has never had nuts in it seems like an impossiblity.

Hopeful16 · 28/10/2026 12:59

BEAR fruit yo-yos are too.

dizzydizzydizzy · 28/10/2026 13:02

Dried fruit
digestives
crisps
bread sticks
pretzels
grapes in a pot? Or some other chopped fruit in a pot?
scone
muffin

@Besidemyselfwithworry they don’t offer food at all, no. I agree it’s not ideal but DS is autistic and this is the only after school activity that can meet his needs.

@Hopeful16 thank you, didn’t know that about soreen bars and the yoyos we can try those.

@HubertLaneIsMyNemesis yes it’s very restrictive! They do have a kid at the club who is highly allergic though, so I’m sympathetic to the issue. I have pointed out that even if I give my son a satsuma it will have been in my kitchen, where I cook with nuts all the time so surely that’s as much of a risk? But they seem adamant that anything packaged must not have the nut warning.

What about pieces of cheese or slices of meats? Babybels, Laughing Cow, Dairylea Dippers, etc if you want them packaged.

This is a shame they don’t provide snacks

I think I’d take DS to the supermarket and look for some ideas together maybe? Let him choose some bits.

But would those be ok in his school bag all day? Don’t they need to be refrigerated?

My kids love those Zombie fruit snacks, snack a jacks and Bear yoyo snacks, none of them need to be refrigerated or cool do will be fine in a bag all day.

SnowflakesandSlippers · 28/10/2026 13:45

Most things like mini cheese and yoghurts would be fine for a day, also those marmite snack things are good, crackers pre buttered, mini breadsticks with a dip pot, raisins, jelly or fruit pots.

BuffaloCauliflower · 28/10/2026 13:46

I have a peanut allergic child and buy the GetBuzzing oat bars/nut free flapjacks on Amazon, they have lots of flavours. The Wowbutter ones taste of peanut butter (Wowbutter is a soya peanut butter alternative)

IME Babybels are fine out of the fridge for weeks. They’ll be fine for a few hours.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 28/10/2026 14:06

Rice cakes, the ones in packets like crisps.

@AralVorkosigan @IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads exactly. Babybels are nearly indestructible. They’ll be okay. So will the cheese and breadstick dippers as well.

AralVorkosigan · 28/10/2026 14:56

Thank you, clearly I’ve been too cautious with babybels in the past :)

and @BuffaloCauliflower thats really helpful thank you, I’ll order some of those.

You can get individual packs of mini breadsticks that are really useful. Aldi do some pizza flavoured ones that are a big hit in our house. The Zombie snacks are just 100% dried fruit too. DDs usually take breadsticks and an apple or a satsuma for their snack at clubs. I agree a Babybel would be fine too, especially in these cooler months.
