Is anyone else sick to the back teeth over the amount of primary school homework set over school holidays?

No, not all all. What have your school asked you to do?

Namexhangedforthis · 26/10/2026 19:06

Holidays should be for recharging their batteries, especially at primary school age. Maybe a bit of reading but that’s it.

Parker231 · 26/10/2026 19:08

Don’t do it - it’s optional in primary

We have a lot during the week but mercifully none over half term/holidays or the weekend. I’m very grateful that DS doesn’t go to a school where they make them do ‘projects’.

somanychristmaslights · 26/10/2026 19:17

Our school doesn’t do any homework. DS gets reading every night, practise times tables and some spellings. That’s it, nothing else for the whole school.

Our primary send a sheet before each half term with some holiday homework activities but thankfully my kids always want to do it as when they discuss it when they go back they won’t know what they’re on about! I think it’s ok as long as it’s not too much especially in year 6 otherwise secondary school is a right shock to the system!!!

I should stop whinging, but instead of going out as a family, we are dividing and conquering, to try and just nail as much of it as possible. DH had to mess around trying to find wooden statues in craft shops today, more time and money for a stupid task no one wants to do. There’s also reading, spellings and learning lines and songs which is fair enough, but why so much other stuff on top? That’s before all the actual written and computer tasks. There’s only so much fake cheer at these projects we can muster, especially when they’re at the expense of things we want to do! Deep breaths.

Because the weather has been so bad I've been grateful for the science project (for once!) More time indoors when it's darker means I change my opinion on homework throught the seasons - spring/ summer is not for working 😂

It's been well over a decade since my DC were in Primary but I remember projects and stuff they had to make in a shoebox over half term...... Is this still a thing?

It's not just sums and spellings.

Ffre · 27/10/2026 14:22

Why are these tasks a thing????
