My son is 6 and he’s told me that his daddy let him in his gf car without his car seat. I am fuming. What’s your thoughts on this?

At 6 - not great. Actually illegal unless the journey was necessary, unplanned and over as short a distance as possible. However in reality the risk is low and a lot of people would make a judgement call that an occasional car trip just with seatbelt is OK. Not defending that position, as everyone should be using a booster seat every time, just pointing out that a lot of people would see nothing wrong with this, especially if it was a practicality issue (e.g. surprise lift).

Does dad know that car/booster seats are required by law at age 6? Not everyone does. Does he have access to one?

Was GF driving? She should have refused too.

I thought you were going to say he was a toddler! A 6 yo will be fine as a one off on a short journey.

I never understand this type of thinking, accidents happen on short journeys too.

I wouldn't love it, but I'd ask him to buy a standard booster to keep in her boot incase they get caught out again (I expect it was poor planning more than intentional) rather than make it a row. (Assuming he is tall enough for one)

Irresponsible and illegal.

It depends on context. Driving him to A&E if he's injured .. fine. Driving him on a long plannes holiday.. not fine.

It might be easier to just buy one and give it to your son to take to his father's house for situations like this.

I would be cross if it were my child but lots of my friends take their children in taxis younger than 6 without a car seat (and they are otherwise good, responsible parents).

think it might be one of those issues where different people weigh up the risk and come to different conclusions without necessarily being negligent.
