Would you eat this fish pie?

Charlie Bingham, bought last week, use by date is today. I normally eat these things on the day of purchase.

Yes of course.
I'm surprised you're asking if the date on it is today?

MeowDoku · 26/10/2026 10:13

Yes of course, it isn't out of date, I don't understand the question tbh

Swissmeringue · 26/10/2026 10:13

Yep, use by dates on processed food are pretty cautious. With fish I probably wouldn't go beyond the use by date, but I'd be fine to eat it today.

PashaMinaMio · 26/10/2026 10:13

Just get on and eat it.
Get it gone.

Besidemyselfwithworry · 26/10/2026 10:14

Yes I’d open it and if it smelt off I wouldn’t bother cooking it - if it smells ok I would cook it and give it a taste and it tastes off I wouldn’t eat it
that’s a criminal waste tho isn’t it - something so nice

RedThroatedWarbler · 26/10/2026 10:14

Why is this even a question?

AlwaysExtraHot · 26/10/2026 10:50

I know what you mean, OP; I'm a bit twitchy about use-by dates, leftovers etc, especially things like fish.
But I'd be OK with using this on its last day. I always heat ready meals to approximately the temperature of the sun anyway Grin and I assume you'll be doing the same.

CleverlyBeery · 26/10/2026 11:03

Yes of course, unless you're about to say you left it on a radiator all week

CaptainMyCaptain · 26/10/2026 11:04

Of course.

No reason to be twitchy. Earlier today I ate some fancy salmon pate that I bought reduced yesterday so had a use by date that was yesterday. I do this sort of thing all the time and I've never been ill. It was delicious and a bargain.

Like a PP says, how is the OPs question even a question?

PeasOff · 26/10/2026 12:42

Absolutely fine, wouldn't think twice about it.

Shoobadadoo · 26/10/2026 12:43

I’d eat it even if the date was yesterday!

There may be no reason, but nonetheless I am.
It doesn't negatively affect my life in any way, so I'm not unduly bothered by it.

It's a question because the OP has some reservations about it. I have been able to apply my imagination and put myself in her place, and answer nicely rather than scoffing or undermining her.
