I’m moving house today!

10 months, lots of tears, losing a house and about £3500 in the process and today we are finally moving!

I’m so nervous - movers are due here in 20 minutes and then we’ll just be waiting for The Call.

Feeling sad about leaving this house - we’ve been here 5 years and a lot has happened both to us and people around us in that time.

  • Got engaged
  • Got married
  • Got pregnant
  • Neither DB or BIL even knew their partners
  • My other DB was still married
  • My parents were still working
  • My nanna and DHs cousin were still alive
  • DH hadn’t done himself a permanent injury
  • Two new cars
  • Two new jobs
  • A PhD
  • A PGCert
  • It was still Covid times and omicron was a thing
  • Watched several relationships start and end around us

The next house is meant to be our “forever” home so a lot more life to live in it! Hoping for a relatively smooth moving day with no dramas 🙏

You LOVE it? I suppose it takes all sorts! We’re hoping never to have to do it again until we’re old and downsizing 🤣

I always remember my Mum saying
a house is bricks and mortar and a home is where your family is.
it’s been part of your journey but you are now enroute to your forever home where new memories will be created.
wishing you all the best today - hope the kettle is handy xxx

Ah that’s lovely and so true. My dad said similar to my mum when they left their house of 24 years a few years ago. She felt like memories lived in the walls of every room but actually they live with her and they’re really happy in their new home!

I'm the same! Disclaimer - we're also old so probably will only move house again once, but it's so exciting! New neighbours to meet, new house to decorate and choose new things for, as well as finding a place for our current 'treasures' that have survived the cull and are coming with us. Then it's where's the nearest shop, petrol station, library, chippy, hairdresser etc. And then the good local walks, drives, garden centre and so on. As @ProtestantTraybakeQueen says, exciting!!

Happy new house, hope the move goes smoothly and later on tonight you'll be sitting there, pleasantly knackered, eating chips out of the wrapper and drinking champagne 🥂

Moving home is so stressful isn’t it.
Done it a few times. You do feel in the way. They are usually quick , so I hope it goes smoothy.

ViciousCurrentBun · 26/10/2026 08:38

Good luck, we will move in a couple of years and this house will be very hard to leave as it will be almost 30 years here.
