What do you think about fake plants?

I can't decide whether fake plants look naff or if they are an acceptable way of increasing the foliage in your house.

I have real plants and fake ones, but I don't know whether to get some more fake ones or not.

What's your honest opinion of them?

I don’t see the point of them. Just get real plants or don’t bother.

BCBird · 26/10/2026 06:46

I bought some when I was staging my house to sell it. I think they are ok. I would not concern myself with what others might think OP; your money, your choice

Artfuldreamer1 · 26/10/2026 06:46

There are some good fake ones out there , but real is better imo.

Tacky.

My neighbour has outdoor fake plants too which is even worse.

Valerie267 · 26/10/2026 06:57

Fake plants are dust gathering ornaments .

Girlintheframe · 26/10/2026 06:57

I love them! We struggle to keep anything alive in our house. Definitely depends on quality tho. Some look very fake and plastic. Some however have confused my guests into thinking they were real.

HaHaHa231 · 26/10/2026 06:59

Odd. Plants equal life, no?

Pabbel · 26/10/2026 07:00

Not keen on them, prefer live plants.

Wistfultearia · 26/10/2026 07:04

Bleh, horrible things. Get a nice vase or lamp if you can't or won't look after real plants.

midlifeattheoasis · 26/10/2026 07:05

Hate them. Hate fake flowers too. They’re so tacky and don't look realistic at all

Seaitoverthere · 26/10/2026 07:05

I really really dislike them but given I kill most houseplants I really should revise my view on them.

Wolfpa · 26/10/2026 07:06

My grandad used to call me Morticia as all I need to do is look at a plant and it dies. If I want anything green in my house fake is the only way to go.

as with everything some are better than others.

cloudsandclouds · 26/10/2026 07:07

Why not get some more real ones instead, or propagate the ones you already have? It feels great to make free plants!

SuperGinger · 26/10/2026 07:07

The beauty of flowers and plants if their temporal nature, I just I just do not get fake flowers and plants

Maisymouse2 · 26/10/2026 07:08

Dust collectors

helpwiththispleasee · 26/10/2026 07:09

I like artificial plants, I have a mixture of both. I think some people look down on them but some houses get no sun so they’re a good alternative. You can get really nice ones that don’t look fake.

Ohh love this website ! Thanks for the link, some lovely stuff on here

Rayqueen84 · 26/10/2026 07:12

Hate fake ones would rather have none

Pinkissmart · 26/10/2026 07:13

I prefer real plants but struggle to grow them, so have a mix

sesquipedalian · 26/10/2026 07:15

I thoroughly dislike them, and would be very surprised to see one in a friend’s house. I admit some of them are very good, but I really don’t see the point of them.

MellowSubmarine · 26/10/2026 07:15

I think that if you don’t want another real plant, there are a lot more interesting things than fake plants that you could get instead.

PersephoneParlormaid · 26/10/2026 07:18

I don’t mind either way. I have real plants for the air cleaning, but the watering and repotting is a pain. Then one time I had those annoying flies.

Yes, just another thing for some people to be snobby about .
I have some fake plants in dark corners, and or high up where I can’t reach to water. Also a hanging one in a high ceilinged but windowless downstairs toilet.
i do believe you have to choose carefully; not necessarily most expensive, some (but not all) Asda ones are very good.

i have real ones in places that are more closely overlooked (eg kitchen windowsill) and easier to get to for watering.

EveryDayisFriday · 26/10/2026 07:26

As a plant murderer, I have fake plants all over my house. I have a couple of real ones but I can never keep them alive for very long which is upsetting.
