Is it windy down in London, especially Heathrow?

My nephew is due to land at Heathrow from Brazil at 3pm today ✈️

I'm in Yorkshire looking at the trees nearly bent double in the wind and am wondering if he'll have a rough landing this afternoon? 😬

Probably. I'm south rather than west London, but it's blowing a hoolie here. Sunny though. But they know what they're doing, it'll be fine.

Wind has died down in north London.

It’s still windy here just south of London - but worry not, my daughter has just landed at Heathrow and said it was fine!

20 mins from Heathrow, it was really windy earlier, it’s better now but still blowy. Perfectly fine for landing though.

I live about 3 miles from T5 - not windy at all now.

Actually having gone out again - it is a bit breezy now - but nothing I'd expect to cause a problem at Heathrow

Celer · 25/10/2026 14:00

It’s blustery but not bonkers.

Wonderknicks · 25/10/2026 14:02

I'm 20 minutes away. My app says the wind is 20mph. It's gusty but fine for landing

BaronessBomburst · 25/10/2026 14:20

I've just landed in Bonn-Cologne. The pilot warned us that it was going to be 'a bit windy' but honestly it was fine. 50 km/h winds meant the approach was a bit bouncy but the landing itself was very smooth and controlled. If he's coming from Brazil your nephew will be on a bigger plane too.

MrsMitford3 · 25/10/2026 14:28

I live very near to Heathrow and it is blustery.

My washing line wash all over the place and clothes dried ridiculously quickly.

I'm sure a big plane like that will be fine.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 25/10/2026 14:30

Breezy rather than windy right now.

MrsClattenburg · 25/10/2026 14:33

Thanks all!

It gets so rough up here at Leeds Bradford that we're a bit 😬 when it's windy!

Not sure he'll be happy to get off a 12 hour flight into this autumnal weather 😄

I was in a bikini this time yesterday! Now on a rainy German motorway.

Since you asked, at 1450 UK time the wind at Heathrow was measured as being almost straight down the runway, at 19 knots (about 21 mph), no gusts..

For those that like that sort of thing the text of the report here:
