Doing nothing day

It's half term and kids are at university. I have the house to myself so dh is not here to distract me.

I don't usually do this at all, but I've decided to give myself permission to just "do nothing".after an intensive few weeks at work and late nights. Not literally nothing, but you know, go shopping , have coffee watch Strictly live etc.

How do spend yours, if you ever have a "Do nothing" day?

I have ME so I am Olympic level at do nothing days.

Have a bath
Light tidying to make it nice
Lots of flopping on sofa watching TV
Maybe a chapter of a book or two with a coffee in my favourite chair
Make a phone call and catch up with someone
Have a nap
Make something nice to eat.

Oh and if you want to be fancy, I recommend national theatre at home. Watch a play. You'll feel like you've had fine dining compared to fast food telly! It's great 😊 (Though I am binging last one laughing Halloween special... nothing wrong with telly).

I won't manage all the above, but that's my standard when I am not well enough to go out, but not unwell enough to have to stay in bed.

I always sort out one cupboard or drawer in the morning so I feel I have
done something and then I binge a box set.

I love foreign historical stuff and escape to medieval Spain or wherever for the afternoon.

Isn’t what you’ve described a pretty normal Saturday? I love a lazy mooch around the shops and then a night in front of the box. It’s not doing nothing. It’s relaxing and recharging your batteries for the week. That’s what the good Lord invented weekends for!

I’ve had a nothing day today. Not nothing as in literally nothing, but just mocking. Lie in, went to the gym, wander round Waterstones and a coffee in town, sorted out a few drawers, made a chillie. Now watching TV and mumsnetting. I love my family and friends but need a day once in a while when I don’t need to interact with anyone.

Read the newspapers ,do the crosswords, read a book are my favourites.

Every Sunday is my doing nothing day. Well not quite doing nothing, I do my chores in the morning, might go for a walk or run, but rest of the day I keep clear specifically to do nothing. Draw curtains, cosy sofa, crap TV and do nothing.

That was my do nothing day years ago. Used to love a weekend paper. Would take me all weekend to read it and do puzzles 😊

I should try it again!

Yep! Although I have 2 dogs and a horse so not strictly nothing as I can’t avoid walking or going to the stables but I enjoy all that so it’s fine. I love a bath, cooking something nice ( cooking is my happy place) while listening to an audiobook or podcast, watch a good box set, potter in the garden if it’s sunny…lovely.

Well, normally I go for a run and make Saturday a day where I "must be productive". I opted out today but still managed to do a spot of work out of guilt.

When I worked, toward the latter years, I used to have my own day each week for doing whatever or nothing. It was a day I could be spontaneous and/or lazy, read, walk, research something, be creative or potter, binge TV, whatever. It was so important to me to have a day where I wasn't responsible for anyone or anything and could just follow my nose wherever.
