How are families coping with the insane cost of living now?!

How are families managing?
Husband works full time and earns quite well (£3k month) and I’m part time on £2k with 2 toddlers in nursery.

The fuel going up means I’m paying £45 more per full tank which is usually every 2 weeks and generally things have gone astronomical.

We have savings thankfully but I see people buying latest trends and expensive clothes/shoes and I can’t help but think how?!

Our money is stretched a lot thinner now, it’s depressing. Maybe the gloomy weather is adding to my frustration :/

They have more money? They use credit cards? They don’t care about being in debt?

ShanghaiDiva · 23/10/2026 22:27

They have more money than you and/or fewer expenses. No great mystery.

My friend has maxed a couple of credit cards keeping up with the Jones’
I’ve just accepted that we can’t do everything.

You've got 2 kids in nursery. Of course things are tight. And neither of you are earning particularly well.

I mean, 2 kids in nursery is probably over half the reason why you’re feeling the pinch!

We've not put the heating on yet. I do sometimes wonder how we're feeling the pinch and others seem to be unimpacted.

It’s not just you. Many people are struggling. Just have to keep going.
