What has bitten me?

Really really horrible feeling — intensely itchy and painful bites. A few days ago I had one on the inside of my finger, now resolved to a scab. Last night I woke up with them on my toes. A few normal looking ‘bites’ and then an almost swollen looking bit on the inside of my toe. Worried it could be something awful like scabies.

Do you have pets? Could they be flea bites?

slugjelly · 23/10/2026 20:22

I have a well-deflea’d cat.

Hmm…I thought I had until the fleas developed a resistance to what we were using. Have you changed your soap etc recently? I had what I thought was a lovely new shower gel but discovered it made my hands and feet itch every time I used it.
I have no further suggestions other than antihistamines helped me massively. I think I’m just one of those sensitive souls who is tasty to insects!

Is it itchy in the night, watery type little blisters if it is that would point to scabies iirc.
Hope it's not op.

Get yourself to the pharmacist.
if it’s scabies you will need to get treatment.

Did you manage to figure out the cause and resolve it OP?

I’m getting bitten by something every night in new areas. First night a few scattered bites on my legs, then torso, then last night across one shoulder. No sign of anything on the sheets or mattress.

I have a cat, she isn’t showing any signs of fleas, nevertheless I’m treating her and washing all the bedding.

Getting fed up with it tbh!

slugjelly · 01/11/2026 20:18

I didn’t manage to work out what it was, but it’s stopped now.

I have a cat too and it wasn’t fleas.

The bites were weird. They hurt so badly and went dark purple as they healed (I still have the marks).

I've always been interested in hand lines, lengths and other oddities that may relate to the prediction of your life corse and noticed the length of you inner toe. I was wondering if you married into wealth?

I wish, @ShakyBake, I wish.

Mine have stopped now too, and I never saw anything. I used a carpet washer in the bedroom and vacuumed the mattress multiple times as well as washing all bedding. I did treat the cat too as she had been due.

Mine also went dark red as they healed, like blood blisters / petechiae under the skin right where the bite was. I did get the pharmacist to check them as it was a bit disconcerting. They were very itchy, angry and red on day 2-4 but never got infected thankfully. I took fexofenadine on the pharmacist’s advice, which helped reduce the itching and the local reaction.

They are still visible but fading away now but thankfully no new ones are appearing so presume the source has been eradicated.

That sounds like the very same thing. We wondered if it was ‘chiggers’.

It’s upsetting for something like that to be happening and nobody know what it is!

Like you, mine were a very horrid itch making me feel bothered way more than mozzies. I took antihistamines as well as bite cream too. Let me know if you develop further theories.
