Timu - what’s the deal with this?

It keeps popping up in my social media. Offering loads of ‘free stuff’ if I order.

Of course it’s ’too good to be true’, no? Someone offering to give me 5x the value of some tat?

It's Temu! Clothes never as they seem. Cheap and horrible. I've had practical stuff like cards, fancy light bulbs that are good! So hit and miss really!

I’ve never used Temu and probably wouldn’t. However, I met with a friend in the summer and she was wearing some gorgeous khaki formal shorts with a patterned top that perfectly complimented the shorts. She really did look amazing and I told her. I couldn’t believe it when she said the set came from Temu and cost £6.

It cheap shit manufactured by slave labour in China . Shoddy goods too. Keep away .

IdleGossip · 23/10/2026 19:41

Cheap shite made in China by slaves. Data harvesting, chemicals, dangerous goods.

Designed to sell you vast quantities of cheap shite you do not need or want. Landfill in the making.

I hate all this ‘buy stuff’ nonsense. Going to American stores near to Halloween, July 4th, thanksgiving, Christmas… and it’s full of tat. Redecorate your whole house in crap you’ll probably throw away? Just why? Who needs Christmas cushion covers and towels ?

Plastic goods, artificial fabrics, AI generated ads that look nothing like the absolute crap you actually receive, shoddily made, slave labour working conditions

Like fast fashion, but worse and include homewares

Sooner they impose a tax on imports bought on Shein, Temu and Amazon Haul the better.

Namechangewegovyjune26 · 23/10/2026 21:32

The free things are a scam, there’s usually a minimum spend etc. I did complain and got some free credit however. I use it for practical things, tape, parcel bags etc .

SpringIsSprung1 · 23/10/2026 21:33

There's plenty businesses, ebay etc who buy in bulk from them and sell them at a much higher price so it's difficult to know where they're from. It's not easy to shut that down but yes, tax might help?

IdleGossip · 23/10/2026 21:48

Well just stop buying shite, whether you're buying it on Temu, Ebay, Amazon or anywhere else.

Temu's homepagre is offering me a special bag to put your trainers in the washing machine, a 360 degree rotating make up organiser, faux rabbit fur sofa covers, fruit flavoured lip gloss, 640 stick on eyelashes. Lots of electricals and charging cables. None of which is needed, and cables/electricals are downright dangerous.

It's cheap for a reason.
