Can anyone help with this blood test result?

Serum ferritin level 32 ng/mL [15.0 - 300.0]; Ferritin >15 and <100ng/mL. With low Hb and MCV.

If was done as part of an 'MOT'. No real health concerns. Everything else well within range, except very slightly high bad cholesterol, along side very good good cholesterol.

Menopausal woman, fit and slim. A runner, which I understand can sometimes lead to low iron because of blood loss through the bowel, due to impact.

The GP report says this is fine and no action required. Google suggests, it's very borderline and that with low Hb and MCV, could be a concern for anemia.

The report doesn't give values for those. Presumably they should be available?

I think under 30 is classed as aanaemia but you can still feel shit when it's just above that so I'd say supplement with some iron.

It's lower end of normal but the Gp generally won't treat until below the cut off. In your position I would get myself on an iron supplement - either over the counter or online pharmacy. Do you feel tired and run down?

The thing that worries me is I do take a regualr iron supplement and it's still 'only just'. Sorry, should have said that in OP.0

15 is the lower cut off, although there is a lot of argument currently to say we should treat below 30 as anaemia. 15 for the GP though so either self treat or wait to get worse!

The over the counter iron won't usually go above 20 whatever the units are. If you look online your can order 200 strength. My daughter was anaemic for quite a while and was on these.

Ah the one I've been taking is from Nutrition Geeks and has 14mg Iron (apparently 100% of NRV) plus some B12 and vitamin C. So I could take two?

I just don't think the multi vits are strong enough to boost up from being low, they're more about maintaining. I think you'll have far more success by hitting it a bit harder with the 200s. My daughter was on a 400 dose for quite a while, and it did sort the problem. She has a long history of anaemia, always on a multi vit but periodically needs a booster as well. And it's so hard to get help from a GP without having to do below 15. Her levels were 18 last time and they still said they couldn't help unless she went below. In the past they've been catastrophically low, around 2, so she has a hefty history of this!
