Quitting alcohol- going teetotal

Today’s day 2, does anyone fancy joining me?
my husband and I have decided it’s just not for us anymore and want to live a healthier life.
I think I’ll miss the social aspect more until I’m used to going out not drinking alcohol!

Me! I've joined an 8 week programme called Just The Tonic. I'm sick of waking up 3 am with heart pounding and just feeling under par all the time. This is my day 2 as well

Wishing you all the best. If you want to go out, pubs do a good range of non-alcoholic drinks and mocktails now,.

I’m 14 months in and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. Good luck, it gets easier and life gets so much better! Socially I find it easier to plan things in the daytime now, I always want to go to bed by 11 lol. And people drink less in the day and you’ll find friends have so many interests and hobbies in the day.

I think I will one day but not yet, I still have a huge collection of gin that needs drinking 🙃

I don’t drink every day, but do like a tipple every week.

Good luck and keep strong!

My daughter stopped the day after her 29th birthday. Never looked back. Her husband occasionally drinks. She says work events are the worst with people persuading her to have a drink. Fortunately she tends to be driving so that helps. Scotland have much tighter limits so people don't say "only one"

Ooooo fab! I’ll have a look at that. This weekends going to be tough as we’re used to our routines etc. but to be honest I’m really looking forward to being sober and healthier. Good luck we can does this 🤩

Thanks everyone! I stopped drinking 3 years ago for 12 months. Lost so much weight, skin was healthy, I had so much more energy. I should have kept it up!

Day 3 and I resisted despite someone giving me a bottle of gin and fancy tonic water. They will go to a local charity for a raffle prize.
Slept MUCH better last night...no waking up in a muck sweat at 3a.m

Yess another day done. We had our group of friends trying to get us to go out but we stayed strong 💪 had a Chinese and bought new pjs. Now tucked up in bed watching tv. How nice is it waking up fresh

Washingforweeks · 26/10/2026 09:25

Succumbed I'm afraid 😨. Had a glass of wine tonight. Oh dear

I'll join you.

Partner and I have decided TTC, so not a drop at the moment, although I will caveat that now and say that if we're unsuccessful I will be drinking on days I have my period and then restart until I finally conceive. Partially because I have a huge supply of nice and expensive alcohol here that needs using eventually and I'm not giving it away. It may take a few tries, given my periods have started being all over the place.

It's a convenient reset as alcohol use had crept up to almost daily until then and I'd like to find a nice medium again eventually when it's Friday nights and Saturdays only, and even then not every weekend. I'm of the age now where I can feel the after-effects the next day, even with a single bottle of cider or glass of spirit and mixer.

Can't say I feel particularly well at the moment. Between headaches, poor skin, nausea after meals and general moodiness I keep thinking surely we've succeeded, but so far tests are negative and this morning there was a tiny amount of blood. We will find out in the next few days I guess. 😔

I went to "lower alcohol" a couple of years ago.

So drink generally less and also choose lower alcohol wine/beer.

Still drink some of the stronger stuff but only on special occassions like Xmas.

It has made zero difference to me as far as I can tell, but to be fair I wasn't really drinking that much anyway, so units maybe down from 20-25 to 10-15 a week.

I always do dry January as well which maybe up for the Xmas excess.
