How do I get back my "working memory"?

Because I've entirely lost it.

It's not a general cognitive issue. I can still do my job properly, complete the FT crossword and answer a few questions on Only Connect. But little day to day things, they escape me. I'm forever losing keys, phone, umbrellas, sometimes even big things (a cordless drill eg, still don't know where that went - I even "lost" my bike for a week recently went somewhere on it, forgot I was on it it, got an uber home, didn't need it again for a few days, went to the shed and couldn't remember taking it out). If I put something down I won't remember where it is, unless it's in a place I always put it. If something takes my attention in the meantime, I'm fucked.

Has anyone else had this and overcome it? I feel like a flakey mess and I'm wasting loads of time retracing my steps looking for things.

This is just normal life for me.

Go to the GP and get bloods done. This is a symptom of your thyroid levels being out of whack, low iron ferritin, B12, D and many more

peri menopause? It’s shit. I can describe the outfit my friend wore on her 30th birthday a million years ago but I have no idea where I last put down my phone.

i think we need more information on why you have difficulty with your working memory. Dementia, ADHD, peri menopause, burnout…?

For me sleep helps. When I’m exhausted I can’t remember anything. I used to have my house keys on a lanyard around my neck when I had a newborn.

This is me exactly. Very peri-related. The worst of it went away with HRT - I was leaving my keys in the door, leaving the stove on, etc. - but still can never find my phone in the house.
