What are your favourite solo moments

I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment and my brain is very full. I'm dreaming of sitting in the window of a coffee shop with heavy rain outside and just staring blankly out of the window. What are your go to solo moments that help to rebalance you?

A long, hot bath 😋

Walking the dog. If I walk him locally, I will usually end up chatting to strangers so I’m not truly ‘alone’ but chatting to strangers is often good for my mental health I find. Or if I want to be very alone, I’ll take him up the nearest hill when it’s wet and windy. I also love being home alone, which doesn’t happen all that often as four of us live here and DH works from home, but this evening they’re all out and it’s just me and the mutt and some snacks. ❤️

Just me and a book and quiet...wonderful.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 22/10/2026 17:56

An hour or two with a book and silence.

NormasArse · 22/10/2026 17:58

Walking on the coastal path with my dogs. I don’t even care what the weather is like- it soothes my soul.

Very similar to your daydream.

I went to Florence on my own in my 20s, Easter weekend. It was early easter so cold and damp.

On the afternoon of Easter Sunday after 'doing the uffizi', I sat in a restaurant at an outside table, under an awning with my book and drank several delicious glasses of red wine. It passed the afternoon beautifully!

The rain was dripping between the awning joins. Very atmospheric.

When the weather is nice I like to sit out on one of the benches on the green in front of my apartment block. We are up a hill so there are fantastic views over the park on one side, and fields on the other. It's nice to take a drink and a book with me and just enjoy the fresh air, maybe greet the occasional passing dog if the owners say yes.

I am going to miss this over the winter - need to find an equivalent way of passing any solo evenings, I think. (I am single and my daughter is with her dad half the time, so I get quite a bit of alone time. Which has up sides and down sides).

MarcusBrigstockesfringe · 22/10/2026 18:02

Apologies that was a moment that happened. If I needed something that was similar but achievable now, I think it's when I get a day in the house with no one else here and I get into bed after lunch, read a book and have a deep sleep.

I’m currently chilling by myself in the local pool hall playing darts. I find throwing darts such a good stress reliever (not so much if I’m playing a competitive game though LOL).

I’ll often take myself off to a quiet pub and enjoy a Coke, alcohol-free beer or glass of wine depending on how I’m feeling. For some reason I find that more relaxing than cafes or coffee shops but part of that is that I have to have decaf and I always panic they’ll get it wrong.

Pedant61 · 22/10/2026 18:03

Well, sitting in a coffee shop, tbh - especially if I have a book.
24 hours away on my own - a gallery, a play and a night in a hotel.
Sunday morning - in my bed, coffee, reading papers online, maybe catching up on some TV.

leperol · 22/10/2026 18:08

Going to bed very early, heated blanket on, lights dimmed. Ipad set up on bedside table. Watching my secret pleasure of cop cams on YT, while propped up on a triangular pillow soft as snow. And I laugh at the antics going on.

Sunbringer · 22/10/2026 18:12

Painting something with my oil pastels.

Laiste · 22/10/2026 18:12

Meditation and a little yoga - upstairs at home with incense and some flute/sitar music.

honeylulu · 22/10/2026 18:18

My daughter has recently cleared out her room and there is a pile of stuff in my room to go to the charity bins at the tip. I switched on the lava lamp to see if it still works and once it starts "bubbling" I'm amazed how restful my brain feels just staring at it. I used to finish work and then lay on my bed staring at phone, now I stare at the lamp!

KojaksLollipop · 22/10/2026 18:23

I have a solo trip on my motorbike to somewhere where I can ride through some beautiful landscapes, and then be absolutely alone, so usually up onto the Yorkshire Dales. I know this isn't something that can happen in the next couple of days as a suggestion, but I can't recommend it enough.

amber763 · 22/10/2026 18:24

The beach or park with my dog on a sunny day. Just bliss.

canklesmctacotits · 22/10/2026 18:25

Anything, anywhere, with nobody talking to me. Helps to be physically occupied (running, laundry, cooking - things I can do without thinking about them). Extra points for being outdoors and knowing I’m coming home to an empty house and a cup of tea.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 22/10/2026 18:28

Not one for everyday but I once took myself to London to see a show. I got a Premier Inn, spent the days mooching and sitting in parks, reading and eating what and when I wanted. It was glorious 🥰.

HikingHippo · 22/10/2026 18:28

The first 30 mins to an hour ish of the day, when the rest of the house is asleep and I can sit and drink coffee and read uninterrupted.

Bonus points if I can do this sitting in the garden.

I feel robbed if they wake up earlier than usual 😆

DewDropsAndCobWebs · 22/10/2026 18:28

I go solo camping for a week, a few times a year. I need alone time to make up for the rest of the time where I never stop being social.
I love curling up by a campfire, on a beach, with a big fat book and not one person wanting any interaction with me.

When it was warmer and I felt overwhelmed I'd go down the garden and sit and stare up into the tree, looking at all the branches and leaves, not for long but just enough. Sounds a bit mad when you type it out!
Now it's colder I make sure I've got a book on the go.

Oh wow! That sounds amazing

Most days I take an hour or so in my hot tub if dd is occupied or dh is with her, which revives / relaxes me. I enjoy looking at the sky, birds, garden while getting a hot bubbly massage / soak. Love a bath aswell.
Hubby works in the evenings quite a lot & I love my alone time then - watching tv with snacks, & I love going to bed early for peace, reading and a bit of gentle yoga and waking up before everyone else to have a quiet cuppa.
On a rare day I’m not working and have hours to myself I love just being at home getting chores done while listening to music / catching up on fave shows / cooking / going for a walk. Also love a solo shopping trip. I’m very happy in my own company!
