What things would you change if you were suddenly the PM?

For me :

Build more prisons

Every prisoner serves their full sentence

Minimum terms for certain crimes, so that people like the 14 y/o rapists would have to serve time, and no judge could overturn this

If Parole boards release a Prisoner, and they reoffend, then the Parole board members get sacked

Death penalty for the most serious crimes

Third spaces in prisons for Trans prisoners

No company is allowed to exist without a helpline manned by human beings

Royal Navy monitoring the coast, so that zero illegal migrants gain access

All illegal migrants already here, get deported today

No men in female spaces, unless they have had a full body transition and they have no criminal record

Minimum wage increased to £20 an hour

Tax personal allowance increased to £20k

Abolish higher rate tax bands - everyone pays 20%

Child Benefit capped at 2 children

Able bodied people on JSA to work half the week for the council (doing whatever needs doing that week)

Build more hospitals

Decrease the age you can get your State Pension to 63, across the board

Reduce Pension Credit to £100 p/w

Cancel ALL Foreign Aid

Cap Care Home fees to £500 p/w

Cap Council tax at £150 p/m

Abolish Inheritance Tax entirely

Abolish Capital Gains Tax

Rip out all car parking meters - if you want shoppers, they don't pay to park

Abolish arrangement fees on Mortgages

Abolish ISA's that expire after one year - they must run until you close the account (albeit you can review the interest rate annually)

No Trans women in female sports EVER - no exceptions

Now....I have no idea how I would fund any of this, but we spend £14 Billion on Foreign Aid, so that's a start....

@MyKindHiker

Could you explain further your explanation of Foreign Aid please?

I’m not averse to the concept but paying ‘aid’ to countries that a space program seems unusual dont you think?

I would

Re join the EU to boost our economy

Re-joining the EU would mean we could have back the treaties we had before where we can simply return people crossing in small boats, as a little gift to the gammons who voted for brexit and then got furious it meant we got more illegal migration, not less.

Totally overhaul the tax system - it needs re-inventing from the ground up.

Build a load of new schools, particularly SEN schools and differentiated learning options for kids who can't manage in mainstream for whatever reason.

Screen all kids at key points for SEN to allow them to be matched with schools which educate in a way that will work for them.

Chemical castration for violent sex offenders.

Loads more funding into rehabilitation and education in prisons. A proper joined up system for after prisoners are released to prevent re-offending. If we could avoid re-offending our prisons would be empty in no time.

Free university education.

Big bursaries for people wanting to train in fields where we currently import a load of workers - nursing, medicine, care work.

Waitingfordoggo · 22/10/2026 10:45

If I was suddenly PM against my will, I would immediately resign.

Justaquestionplease · 22/10/2026 10:47

Well thank fuck you're not pm op.

gamerchick · 22/10/2026 10:49

I knew before I clicked on this thread it would be a stop the boooats thing. Predictable and obviously no idea how things run in the backend.

👏Some brilliant suggestions here!

Funny how that's the only thing you picked on, out of a long list of proposals.

We DO need to stop the boats.

there would be a mandatory exam which you must pass at 80% or higher in order to get the vote. Stupidity should not influence how the country is run.

Specialneedsnightmare · 22/10/2026 11:09

Well , I would limit the use of ai for a start.

NorwegianForest · 22/10/2026 11:13

Raising the minimum wage to £20 would be a disaster. The recent increases are one of the main reasons why school leavers are currently struggling to get a job and local businesses are going under.

RowsOfFlowers · 22/10/2026 11:15

Minimum wage to £20ph, you gotta be having a laugh

What form of exam?
Unfortunately people who have a high IQ are not necessarily knowledgeable and can think and act in stupid ways.

Where will all these prisons be built? On the green belt that’s currently being built on to make mass housing estates all around me or in towns near schools and people’s homes that are already built

StormGazing · 22/10/2026 11:46

I would:

  1. charge energy businesses more windfall tax, they’re absolutely rolling in money, and there should be the standard charge removed, as well as not forcing people who cannot keep up with bills to have those crazy charge metres which I believe have such a huge rate compared to other people who cannot keep afford their bills can get the best deals
  2. the NHS - completely rehash the administration and crazily paid management, there so many, and some are on over £100k yet the NHS has never been worse, so that’s clearly not working!
  3. ensure contracts with the NHS for estates, procurement etc aren’t inflated to crazy amounts - daylight robbery!
  4. the VAT from private schools should be paid into the state schooling system, particularly SEND facilities
  5. I’d increase the minimum wage to a living wage
  6. id ensure companies like Amazon paid the corporation tax correctly into the Uk, where they actually run it through Luxemburg and artificially have low ‘profit’ in the UK … all companies who do this or other sneaky things, would pay correctly
  7. billionaires / millionaires who live heee / have houses here, pay tax correctly like everyone else
dizzydizzydizzy · 22/10/2026 11:47

The £14 billion from the aid budget would not even touch the sides for your plans, OP.

As for the death penalty - bloody hell!!!

My number one priority would be rejoining the EU - leaving has been a disaster economically and in so many other ways.

Rather than spending £millions on building new prisons and further £millions on looking after prisoners, I would invest a few quid in early years parenting support and schools - ensuring that more children have a decent start in life will lessen their chances of turning to crime. Also more education and mental health support for prisoners to reduce the chances of reoffending. A shocking number of them are illiterate and have undiagnosed ADHD (which is associated with lack of impulse control). You can’t get a job without being able to read and without a job, the chances or turning to crime are surely higher.

I agree the personal allowance should be increased and it probably should be £20k by now but making it jump to that overnight is unrealistic.

This. I agree. I would open more safe routes for people, so they would not have to be at the mercy of 'people traffickers', as they are called. This is something that needs to happen asap.

XenoBitch · 22/10/2026 12:56

Minimum wage increased to £20 an hour
Cap Care Home fees to £500 p/w
Cap Council tax at £150 p/m

How is that going to work?

tellingeveryonehowbadly · 22/10/2026 12:57

All of your prison ones are totally unachievable 😂😂😂

TooBigForMyBoots · 22/10/2026 12:59

I'd ban noisy exhausts.

CoffeeAndACroissant · 22/10/2026 13:02

The foreign aid budget is a tiny drop in the ocean.

For every £100 the government spends, roughly £30 goes on social protection and £19 on health.

Education receives around £9 for every £100.

Foreign aid is equivalent to roughly £1 for every £100 of total public spending. The government spends about 20 times as much on health as it does on foreign aid.

It's always hilarious when the spot the boats folks reveal their ignorance by claiming everything can be paid for by stopping foreign aid. Something that probably brings money into our country via soft power / opening up trading relationships.

JoanOfMarch · 22/10/2026 16:19

I wish this was true, but alas we would not be able to simply return them and we would also have to take a hefty amount of asylum seekers as part of the EU's new Dublin Agreement or pay substantial financial penalties. The old DA never worked and was abandoned. Pre Brexit, the UK was saddled with more than we could ever send back.

Cadeaukatze · 22/10/2026 16:37

Well mine would be:

Ban pavement parking, fireworks for personal use, garden bonfires, reintroduce dog wardens, introduce rules to combat noise pollution like no noise between 8pm and 8am and make mobile phone companies reintroduce headphone jacks. I'll ban noisy exhausts while I am at it @TooBigForMyBoots

Prevent bungalows being turned into houses and have restrictions so that small houses can't be turned into big ones unless they are ramshackle old ones on a rural plot. No green field development until empty houses have been brought back into use, second homes brought back into full time residential use as far as feasible and brown field sites exhausted.

Stop councils having stupid rules about using household tips so anyone can go - then they can save money on fly-tipping.

Negotiate an exemption from the EES for people who voted Remain in the Brexit referendum and for anyone too young to have voted in it :) The former isn't feasible I know but it's fair and reasonable to exempt anyone under 28 who didn't get a vote.

Sort out the smaller issues and the larger ones will take care of themselves. Maybe people wouldn't be too angry all the time and blood pressure levels would reduce, saving the NHS money :)
