Anxiety taking over

I’ve recently accepted a new job that offers better working hours for the same money, and deep down I feel excited about the opportunity. However, my anxiety is making me terrified of handing in my notice and leaving the security of my current job. I keep worrying about the new place being worse, even though I have no real reason to think it will be, and my mind keeps creating scenarios that haven’t even happened. For example, what if someone in my family or my partner becomes ill and my new employer isn’t understanding or supportive? I know I can’t predict the future, but my brain seems to be focusing on every possible thing that could go wrong. I think I’m scared of making the wrong decision and regretting it. Has anyone else experienced this when changing jobs? How did you manage the anxiety and learn to trust your decision? I’d really appreciate some advice because I feel like my anxiety is overshadowing what should be an exciting change. ❤️

Congrats on the new job! I live by this saying: Face the fear and do it anyway.

Yes it might be worse but it might also be awesome and help you learn new skills and take you onto even bigger and better things.

In a way your anxiety is trying to 'protect' you. It's giving you reasons to not accept the new job just incase something happens so that you stay where you are and feel 'safe'.

The reasons aren't valid though. Whenever I feel like this I always say to myself 'I'll cope with that if it happens. This stops me from worrying about things that may never happen because that would be a waste of energy.

Thank you! I never used to be like it but as time has gone on I’ve been more fearful of change.
