Anyone else hate “bonus chapters” being released exclusively online?

I buy physical book. A book isn’t a book without holding it, and then I get word that there are bonus chapters that need to be read, that can only be accessed online

I hate it.

Release them in the book. Release them as a novella, but stop releasing them online only

Didn't even know this was a thing OP. I absolutely agree with you.

Another thing that really annoys me has been the trend in recent years for living authors to latch onto well known characters from loved books and use them to write a sequal or book based on the original. It absolutely infuriates me.

YABU It’s not up to authors to incur costs to satisfy your need for more objects.

I’ve never heard of this before but yes this would annoy me too!

The ‘need for more objects’ (unnecessarily judgemental language) drives people to buy books, which is presumably a positive for writers. Many people prefer reading a physical book, so it’s hardly the dead medium people predicted years ago and not unreasonable to think if you’re stumping up the money you get the full text.
