Durham Services

I have travelled up and down the A1 multiple times this year

every time we get to Newcastle heading south we see the signs of No fuel at Durham Services

one day - perhaps - but for months on end ? Does anyone know what is happening? I can never be bothered to stop and investigate when I have a long trip

Probably just a way for the Northerners to deter those from further afield from buying their cheap fuel. Pop up a sign saying you've run out, so that only those in the know go in to buy.

Ask them 🙂

Then update us if it’s interesting

If only there was some way of searching for information on the internet?

I don't know, but my completely made up guess is The petrol station at Durham Services (located at Junction 61 of the A1(M) via Roadchef) has experienced temporary closures and prolonged lack of fuel due to ongoing forecourt maintenance and regional supply chain delays.

It's always hideously expensive there anyway, when I am in Scotland it's usually about 5p a litre cheaper than the North East of England, sometimes more.

Something to do with distance from the refinery.

I think I’m best placed to answer this important question given my name 😆
Closed for refurbishment of the forecourt apparently. It has been closed for ages.

I do like the idea that it’s a fake closure to keep southerners away 🤣

Your Google skills are better than mine @Nolongera

i have seen - closed due to carbon monoxide leaks, closed due to water leaking into the tanks, closed permanently and - well - Nothing that sounded believable
