How are you doing @Gettingbysomehow - do you feel any better now it's lunchtime?

What is it that is troubling you, is it your job, health, juggling wider issues outside work or all of those?

If you can share some details, people might have advice on a way forward.

Im 64 and Ive worked in the nhs for 46 years. I think Im just completely burnt out and knackered. Everything is so complex now. The patients are sicker and living longer with serious conditions.
Its just go, go, go from morning to night and I cant be seen to be tired or grumpy. I have to keep my happy face on.
I'm having stomach surgery in 2 weeks. I think I'll feel better when that's done.
Thanks for asking 😍

Hopefully the surgery will help @Gettingbysomehow and you will also have recovery time afterwards, a break which might do you good in itself - make sure you take the time you need rather than rushing back.

As you are 64, is there any possibility of early retirement - I don't know how NHS pensions work, but you should get your state pension at 67 - if you could manage on your occupational pension for 2-3 years, and you could take it early, might that be an option?

There is a topic here specifically for NHS staff - you might get more useful advice there. I've spent my working life in corporate-land which has its own challenges but I know from seeing threads on here that the NHS is a world of its own for people who work in it!

Wishing you the very best for your upcoming surgery Flowers
