Hi fellow mnetters. Haven’t been on here in a while. I’ve just seen news of bomb threats being made to a number of schools. It has been said they are treating it as a hoax (don’t know how to link) sorry if this is being talked about already, I’m unable to find any threads, could somebody please point me in the right direction, thanks.

I had an email from my child's school at lunchtime starting 'you will be aware'. I was very much not aware having been working all morning and not seen any news or media so it came as quite the shock!

Yes, a hoax on a massive scale it seems.

A school in Northumberland was closed last week, citing a malicious communication. Must have been the same issue. (eta BBC link)

Thank you for your replies. Yes, I bet it was quite a shock, especially given everything that’s going on in the world.

how can they be sure it’s a hoax? Does everyone have confidence in this?

In all honesty if a school or schools were to be attacked they’d be more successful not giving any warning so I’m massively confident it’s a hoax

Yes, mine tried to use it as an excuse to come home early. They were quickly told nice try and get back to school - already knew it was a hoax.

Saw something similar last week, before this came out. A specific individual in the town next to us had been named, but the content of the email was the same in another part of the country. The thing last week was clearly a hoax as the kids were off school. I imagine this is too and my DCs will definitely be going in tomorrow.

My eldest DS would have definitely tried the same 🤣🤣

This happens from time to time although not with as many schools.

I can't imagine that a real terrorist would give a warning. Saying it is likely to be a hoax also doesn't mean they don't check it out.

Yes I have confidence in it.

Bomb scares (especially on this massive scale) are simply done to cause panic and disruption.

That's all.

Thanks all, yes that all makes sense. Back to cooking dinner and ferrying around for clubs it is then.

there’s some sick bastards out there

mine would definitely use it as an excuse too 🤣

They claimed to have planted bombs in hundreds of schools. They’d have to have been doing it for months. And yet no one from any of these schools has noticed anything suspicious? No cleaner or caretaker has spotted one? No child has stumbled across one?

And since when did Islamist terrorists give warnings? They tend to claim responsibility after the fact, not before.

I think it’s fairly obvious that it’s a hoax, although I can see how when it’s your child’s school you’d want to be very sure.

I hadn't heard of this but in my secondary school it used to happen every other week - it was the kids doing it then though, anything to get out of P.E.
