And then everyone clapped

I had an actual "everyone clapped" moment last week, and it tickled me so much I thought I'd share.

(And it's topical, re the Government trying to clamp down on headphone-dodgers on public transport.)

Bus to Malaga airport. A woman across the aisle from me, firstly had a loud conversation on speakerphone then played a series of clips that seemed - to me - to be ridiculously loud. Admittedly I do wear hearing aids so sounds can be distorted. But nah, I'm confident that she was pissing everyone off.

Coupled with the fact that she had her bag on the seat next to her, and the bus was so busy that people were standing. But she didn't shift her bag.

So I firstly asked her - politely - to either use headphones, or turn volume off. You'd think I'd kicked her puppy from the way she reacted. So I gave up with the politeness. I think I said, "are you clinically selfish, or do you just help out at the weekends?" I'm not sure that was the best retort.

But then I genuinely got applause! Seems it needed just one voice (as Barry Manilow would say), to speak up. So many then chimed in to berate her. It did possibly help that the first voice in agreement came from a deep voiced Scottish bloke who was an absolute unit (I'm a little old lady - it's a bit sad that I was pleased to see a big bloke step up, but if it had turned physical I'd be rubbish).

I doubt very much that the selfish arsehole thinks that she did anything wrong. But blimey I did enjoy my "everyone clapped" moment.

I possibly need to get out more.

Haaa! That was witty. Usually I think of something like that that I should have said about 2am the next morning. I’d have clapped!

Take your wins where you can get them. I love your comment and hoping I can remember it when I need to.

Good for you- you deserved applause for confronting the selfish woman. I witnessed a scene in the cinema where several people applauded (me included). Watching a film, two teenage girls kept talking loudly and taking selfies, so that the whole room lit up. A woman near them said loudly "Cut it out now girls, or I'll throw you through that bloody door". She got a round of applause and they behaved themselves after that.

I've had those 2am moments too! I'm brilliantly witty and erudite in those early hours, with only my cats to appreciate it (although they would fake appreciation if there was any chance of Dreamies).

Brilliant, well done that woman.

I always WANT to speak up, but my advancing years have paradoxically emboldened me mentally, whilst limiting me physically. I guess sometimes, speaking up isn't worth the risk.

But ooh this woman was annoying me so much!
