Just being nosey really ! Ours is set to 16 usually, so if it drops below that in the house it will come on but I am absolutely freezing !! We do live in a 100 year old house and it’s very breezy, we have the old floorboards too with suspended floor so that’s probably not helping.

21, we all run cold…

onmylastnerveseriously · 19/10/2026 13:57

16 would feel unbearable to me, like not having heating! Bizarrely I survived ice on the windows in the 80s but many years of a comfortable middle class existence has spoiled me. Lucky I know

AuroraBloom · 19/10/2026 14:09

16 would be far too cold for me. 21 would be more realistic especially in a draughty old house.

EerieDecorations · 19/10/2026 14:11

16 during the day when everyone is active, 18 morning and evening, sometimes override it in the evening if it feels chilly and we are sitting down.

UniquePinkSwan · 19/10/2026 14:21

16 is freezing

WhatYouEgg · 19/10/2026 14:24

100 year old house here too! I have it on 18 in the mornings until we leave the house, 15 or off during the day, then 19 in the evenings.

MomOfBirmingham · 19/10/2026 14:24

19 day, 17 night.

Draughty 1930's house.

Hive keeps trying to lower the daytime temp to 18.5 and I really feel the difference.

NattyKnitter116 · 19/10/2026 14:30

18 in the morning then 20 mid morning and 21.5 rest of day. 120 year old terraced house. Extra blankets in north facing living room and cardigans if we’re downstairs. It’s usually pretty warm upstairs. Most of the draught comes through the front door - rest of the place has double glazing. Keep meaning to rig up a door curtain !

namechangeforthiswun · 19/10/2026 14:37

Is 16 too cold then for inside ?! Dh would have a heart attack if I suggest setting it higher 😆 we only have single glazing downstairs!!

18 in the morning and evening. Obviously off in the day if we are all out and over night.

runnerducky · 19/10/2026 14:45

We have Hive individual smart thermostats so every room has a different temp and schedule 🤓

Eg. kitchen is set to lower (17) as heat comes from cooking and we also don’t tend to be sitting long periods, it’s an active room, so we don’t get cold.

Kids rooms only heated for bedtime and then before they get up in morning, usually 19 or 20.

Living areas all kept warmer, 20 usually, but on office days are unheated until home time.

And so on!

fridaynightzzz · 19/10/2026 14:52

18 for an hour in the morning and evening and then very low otherwise.
I’ve also been boosting it around lunchtime as this when the sun moves round and our house gets cold.
Years ago we used to have it sent to 19 in the morning and all evening and all day at the weekends. I do remember I had to switch it off a lot so probably better I do it this way round now.

Mum2Fergus · 19/10/2026 14:53

14 from 10pm til 7am then 19 throughout the day.

Theworldismybuffet · 19/10/2026 15:05

21° in the day and 20° at night.

AppropriateAdult · 19/10/2026 16:58

21 here while we’re at home, and off overnight. The house is well insulated, so it hasn’t had to come on very often yet this year - currently the thermostat is reading 21.8, with no rads on. 16 would feel extremely cold to me unless I was racing around doing housework or similar, OP.

LongDistanceClara44 · 19/10/2026 17:22

Not seeing anyone else with 24... although ours isn't on all the time, we have no schedule, i just turn it on when I get in, the rest of the family would happily freeze, I don't think they notice the temperature at all

PumpkinWanker · 19/10/2026 17:25

19

That would be way too cold for me. I am not happy with anything under 22.

Topseyt123 · 19/10/2026 17:31

It's set to a schedule for a couple of hours in the morning and a few hours in the evening. Also by Hive. Target temperature is 18.5⁰. It does kick in now and again at the moment, but not really very much.

16⁰ would be very cold and uncomfortable. I don't know how you could stand it. I'd be telling DH that it needed to be turned up and I would be doing it. But then, I have always been the one to set ours.

Babayagahaha · 19/10/2026 17:33

19 for an hour in the morning and evening. Off in the day and all night.

Maybe another hour at lunch time at a weekend.

ElixirMaker · 19/10/2026 17:45

Our Hive thermostat is half way up our stairs, literally on the stairs not on the wall. We have room thermostats as part of our home automated system so we can actually see what temperature each room is. Hive says one temperature but the rooms vary.

I wouldn't care if Dh had a heart attack over the temperature in the house, the heating would increase if anyone is feeling cold. I don't mean walking around in t shirt and shorts but if you are in joggers and a sweatshirt then surely the house is too cold if you feel cold. Why should you feel uncomfortable in your own home? Who made him King of the house?

The biggest investment we made was ensuring the house retained heat. We bought a thermal camera, you can hire them, and went round our entire house seeing where it was cold and leaking heat. We changed the weather strips on the external doors, insulated sections of the loft that were not insulated as well as a the rest and bought a thermal door curtain.

Hive is set to be slightly warmer in the morning when people are showering and naked, then it drops a degree. It is set to come on overnight if the temperature drops to 16 degrees according to Hive but as I said, each room says a different temperature.

Waitingfordoggo · 19/10/2026 17:48

Ours is set to come on at 16° for a period of a couple of hours in the morning and then a few hours in the evening. It hasn’t been on yet this season. It is feeling cool in the house (old house with some big rooms and a tendency towards damp) but we’re managing fine with hoodies and Oodies and blankets.
