Do you have a favourite tree?

I love the tree just across the street from us in a park. It's a massive beech tree - must be a hundred years old at least. It's changing colour know and when the sun catches it in the evening it is glorious. Once the leaves are gone we get a nice view of the rather lovely houses across the park all lit up at night. In the spring the fresh green growth glows in the morning.

We've been here 6 years and it's one of my favourite things about moving.

I find trees very grounding. And I've planted way too many in my small garden!

Yes! A weeping willow. Reminds me of the park near my childhood home.

Enjoy your trees in your garden!

I have 2 cherry blossom trees in my garden, a pink on one side of the driveway and white on the other.
April and May are glorious, and they’re a bright burnt orange right now

Zebracat · 19/10/2026 11:35

No, because picking one tree from the ones I love would be impossible. In our local park my current favourite is a Liquidamber- smells like toffee apples right now. love the Acer in my garden, the apple tree that’s on its last legs and the well shaped pear tree, the Robinia next door. I’ve met the odd awkward silver Birch, but most are gorgeous. Horse Chestnuts in May, Larch with their new spring leaves, the big old Cedar of Lebanon at Compton Verney, the Plane trees of London, the Pines in Bournemouth. I could go on …

My potted Gingko biloba, the Mulberry I hope to get for Christmas, cherries with their beautiful bark and blossom and fruit. No, can’t pick a favourite.

BleakAF · 19/10/2026 11:40

I love larch trees x

SoftandQuiet · 19/10/2026 11:41

Used to love the big fir tree in my childhood home front garden- it was blown down in the Great Storm and I cried. Now I love horse chestnuts, so lovely all year round, and oaks, and tamarisk. It's so hard to choose one.

TheFormerMrsTruelove · 19/10/2026 11:46

Weeping willows are very pretty but I’ve never been up close to one. Oaks are my all time favourite; a lovely place to sit on a sunny day with a good book. Horse chestnuts at this time of year. And Holly trees.

There’s a small tree in our work carpark which is glorious. Its leaves go from green in the summer to the most beautiful reds and oranges at this time of year. I don’t know what it is, but it’s beautiful.

@Zebracat I love a gingko tree - saw lots in Japan turning the most beautiful bright gold. I have a small potted one...

On my walk to my allotment is a row of houses with big front gardens. Nearly all have magnolia trees which are magnificent in flower.
If I had a garden big enough for trees I would have a magnolia tree and wisteria round the door.

HoldMyWine · 19/10/2026 11:53

There is a big oak tree that grows in abbey grounds near where I live. It’s beautiful.

DramaAlpaca · 19/10/2026 12:01

I love acers and I've planted lots of different varieties in my garden, including two bought from Lidl as tiny plants years ago. They're huge now, and thriving.

I also love the little woodland of rowan trees that provide berries for the birds every year.

My favourite tree is the mature copper beech tree in my back garden. When we planted our beech hedge twenty years ago there was a rogue copper beech amongst the saplings we bought, so DH planted it on its own as a specimen tree. It's fabulous and supports so much wildlife.

I also have a flowering cherry that we put in as a memorial to my grandmother as they were her favourite trees. We call it 'Nan's tree' and it reminds me of her every spring when it flowers.

We used to have a eucalyptus grown from seed, but unfortunately it blew down during a gale. They have very shallow roots, apparently.

HeddaGarbled · 19/10/2026 12:07

A neighbour’s copper beech I can see from my living room window. Beautiful in all seasons.

MothershipG · 19/10/2026 12:36

Where we walk the dog there are some spendid oak trees, all gnarly & twisted and interesting, last year was a mast year and there was a carpet of acorns.

Oaks are my favourite so interesting!

AFigureWalks · 19/10/2026 12:39

I do love a copper beech and a silver birch tree.

Greedybilly · 19/10/2026 12:40

I love a big oak.
I have 2 small cherry blossoms ( from B and M!)they've now gone a lovely orange colour.x

Offredismysister · 19/10/2026 12:53

Loads!
There is a big oak in the next field to my house where I walk daily, it has a hollow in it & a few evenings ago I saw a little owl sat in it looking at me.
My neighbour also has this massive tree in their garden that I call the spooky tree, it’s not quite dead but it’s sprawling & spindly like something out of a horror film, they have a light at the base of it too which adds to the effect at night.
My dad is buried under a lovely silver birch & I read that trees send signals to each other. So I planted one in my garden & touch it hoping that it sends a signal to his tree. Bonkers but it comforts me.

SusanSHelit · 19/10/2026 12:55

I have oak leaves tattooed on me but I haven't met a tree I don't love yet

OhBotherSaidPoo · 19/10/2026 12:57

There's a beech in Hyde Park near the Serpentine that is just gorgeous.

The Elm outside my bedroom window is lovely too. Beautiful delicate branches.

Yamadori · 19/10/2026 13:00

I have found my people!

Blingismything · 19/10/2026 13:04

Love cedar trees also the symmetry of monkey puzzle trees. I drive past a couple regularly. But love all trees.

moogdroog · 19/10/2026 13:06

I love our neighbour's copper beech that hangs over our garden. It's such a glorious colour. There's also a wizened tiny oak in a NT property nearby that could have a fairytale written about it.
I've recently started working at a historic park and garden that has loads of veteran/unusual trees that were planted by the Victorians. I'm getting to know them - we have a lovely monkey puzzle, a ginkgo, some redwoods and a Cedar of Lebanon, amongst many others.

PaintMeLikeYourFrenchGulls · 19/10/2026 13:07

Yes. It is on a route I drive regularly. My children all get quizzed on the way to see if they can remember it.

Lurkingandlearning · 19/10/2026 13:47

Rowan is mine

Verv · 19/10/2026 13:50

Lilac and silver birch.

ValleyofHumiliation · 19/10/2026 13:59

Beech is my favourite too. We are surrounded by ancient beech woodlands where we live. They are stunning in every season and so full of personality! I couldn’t pick a favourite individual tree though
