Short breaks alone

Have had a very recent break up and now thinking about being able to take short breaks on my own with no kids or man-child.

Have you holidayed alone/would you holiday alone? I'm trying to work out if it's a fantastic idea and great way to relax. Or if it's actually quite lonely.

I'm thinking a 2 night city break to Europe, or 4 night trip for winter sun.

Fantastic, thanks for replying. How long do you go for?

Yes. I did a week in gran canaria once. Also done short breaks in Denmark, Paris, Florence on my own pre marriage.

There's a brilliant Insta account of a female teacher from Devon who travels alone every holiday and some weekends. Laurie Alycee I think her name is. Might give you some inspiration.

Also I never felt lonely. I'm very independent and just took a book out to dinner with me.

Thanks I will look her up.

It sounds like the perfect break, being able to go at your own pace and rest and relax whenever you want. How did you find the week alone? I worry that I'd become lonely after that length of time. (Even though I am not a sociable person).

It was absolutely fine. I just sunbathed, swam, drank wine on my balcony and read many many books!

What I didn't like was that it was a package holiday so there were kids in the pool all the time. If I did it again I'd go out of school holidays on a non package.

4 nights usually but sometimes up to a week. I also go with DH but I do at least 1 solo trip outside the UK and a couple of solo weekends a year. So does he. Keeps things fun.
I am very used to my own company.

I agree with others. Even though I'm married, I often do short breaks alone - mainly London, but other places too. It's fantastic - you can just do whatever you like, and no need to worry about whether another person might be enjoying themselves. Do it!

I think this is the thing that most appeals to me. I always travelled with ex and DC and felt like I was trying to please them and meet their expectations.

I am really fantasising about a weekend in Lisbon where I stroll around at my own pace. Wake up when I want to, eat when I want to and rest when I want to.
