WWYD- laminate purchased now on offer!

Bought 28 plus 3 more packs of laminate from b and q I think 35 days ago. £33 each. They are now on a 4 for 3 offer, which from calculating I think would save me £230.
Was pondering speaking to b and q and asking if they could honour the new price, a relative has mentioned the idea (if they don't honour the new price) of purchasing 31 packs at the new price (£792) then "returning" the receipt with the old price (just over £1000) to then get the difference of the £230 in my bank.
So I am interested in what other people would do, shall I ask for the discount/suggest the refund idea, not even bother ?! And if anyone's tried this in the past and been successful please let me know :)

I would buy and take back on old receipt but check return policy first as it might be 30 days

Stairsstairsstairs · 18/10/2026 22:01

Sorry, forgot to mention there's a 90 day window for returns on laminate

Return them, then buy them back, if they will refund on the original price

MozzieFreeZone · 18/10/2026 22:11

Definitely return them.

Stairsstairsstairs · 18/10/2026 22:17

Just avoid confusion, the laminate is already fitted I would just be asking to do this on the system so I get the lower price.
I suppose I just think it's a little cheeky ? Or am I overthrowing it and obviously its £230 so a no brainer?

I’d call and ask and if they don’t honour it def buy again and take bk work the old receipt. Maybe just check barcodes match though.

Snickersnotomato · 18/10/2026 22:22

Sorry, that’s bonkers if you have already laid the laminate. Why would you expect the shop to give you a refund because it is on offer now?

Merrybandofpirates · 18/10/2026 22:25

They won’t let you buy them and then hand them an old reciept for a refund for the things you just bought. But you can buy them, leave the shop, then go back a few days later or go back to a different B&Q with the told recipe and return them. You just won’t get away with doing it in the one go at one time.

Key bit of info there! No you can't get a refund on flooring you've already fitted. Can't believe you have to ask!

dontblameme · 18/10/2026 22:27

Annoying, but you were happy to pay the original price 35 days ago and are happy with your new floor? B&Q don't owe you anything.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 18/10/2026 22:29

If you hadn’t already fitted it then fair enough. But it’s going a bit far to re-purchase at the lower price and the use the old receipt once you have fitted it. Also, if the retailer uses item level bar codes to track individual products (as M&S and Next do) then you’ll end up looking silly as you attempt to defraud them, because the bar codes on the receipt you use won’t match those on the product returned…

Arlanymor · 18/10/2026 22:50

You want a refund on laminate that is already fitted?! Erm... does not compute.

TyneTeas · 18/10/2026 23:04

They probably aren't obliged to, but you can always ask

Shy bairns get nowt!

OccasionalHope · 18/10/2026 23:36

It's annoying, but you were prepared to pay the price when you bought it.

Catroo · 18/10/2026 23:38

I appreciate £230 isn't a small amount of money, but 30 packs of laminate to buy and return a few days later . . . That's a right faff, with the (probably small) risk that the product is batch coded.

Regarding asking if they would honour the price, do you do this with anything else? Fake buy alcohol to get a partial refund on what you bought last month? Ask a restaurant to honour a fixed price menu they had advertised two weeks ago?

I get its frustrating, but thats the chance you take with promotions. Either plan way in advance so you can buy at its cheapest, or accept the price if you buy on demand

Dontevenlookatme · 18/10/2026 23:43

I think you just need to accept that you were happy with the price you paid at the time.

I do sympathise, I regularly experience this with Ryanair’s sodding dynamic pricing.

Stairsstairsstairs · 18/10/2026 23:49

OK OK majority rules and as some say yes I was happy to pay the price a few weeks ago so fair enough that's a good point

I wouldn't be influenced by some of the snotty responses on here OP. It's £230, I definitely would buy the flooring again and return with the original receipt. I've done the same before, although not at B&Q. Like someone else has mentioned, sometimes (e.g. at Next) they can tell what you paid for the item by scanning the barcode. So I'd Google to see if they have the same thing at B&Q. But the worst that can happen is you just say 'oops sorry, wrong receipt' and give them the correct one.

I would also do this.

Sunbringer · 19/10/2026 09:07

Just return it and re buy…

Edited

I’ve bought M&S items and returned on a separate receipt before. So they’re not tracking things that deeply

hididdlyho · 19/10/2026 09:16

As you've already laid the flooring I don't think you'll get anywhere trying to get the price match. I'm not sure about rebuying then trying to return using the receipt for the flooring you've laid, I'd have thought there's something in place to stop people doing this (different barcodes etc). It sounds like a lot of effort for £200 and if you have £800 sitting around to rebuy the flooring is it worth the hassle?

Just return it and re buy…

But the flooring has already been fitted
