Pulsing sensation in head

Been happening almost every night for over a week. It's like a rhythmic pulsing sensation not painful but annoying. Have had BP issues recently so wondering if that is causing it. Been to doctor for ECG and check up and just been given another BP med to add.

Was feeling well up to a couple of weeks back when I had some heavy viral thing and BP and the pulsing have been playing up since.

Anyone had anything similar as GP doesn't seem bothered but it's worrying me?

@PebblePlush I don't want to alarm you but I'd give 111 a call just to be sure.

Done that already was a waste of time but thanks though.

I have pulsatile tinnitus which is a pulsing, usually in my R ear. It's meant to be one of those get-checked-out-quickly symptoms, which I did, but I've now had it for years with no escalation.

Do you just try and ignore it does it come and go? Mine is more like in my head rather than ears if that makes sense. Have had it in the past and it usually goes away as quickly as it started but it's become a regular nightly feature lately. It's quite annoying.

I get this if I don’t get enough sleep. And it is a sort of tinnitus too, apparently.

I’ve had this when dehydrated. Do you have a home bp monitor? Definitely check it if so, especially as your medication has been adjusted

I tend to notice it in the evening. I just sort of live with it now. Yes, it's a bit annoying, but I've learnt to keep it in the background.

Snap. Almost four years now. MRI clear. Can tell you my heart rate right now just by listening.

Thanks all it's reassuring to know I'm not the only one. If it carries on will push GP for a referral to get it properly checked out.

I get this when I drink rosé wine (which is why I no longer drink it). I always just assumed that it was a type of migraine

PebblePlush · 18/10/2026 20:53

Interesting about the wine as I find it need to avoid alcohol or it gets worse expecially red wine.
