Ive never been formally assessed for dyspraxia but health professionals have suggested that i may have it both as a child to my mum and more recently although i wasnt well enough to access an assessment at that point ( 3 years ago). Im nervous to spend money on a private assessment incase im not dyspracic. My childhood traits included late crawling, late walking (21 months old), taking a while to hold an open cup, not being able to tie shoelaces until the later years of primary school, poor balance and struggling to recognise which shoes to put on which feet ( i still struggle with this), poor coordination in pe classes and slow handwriting ( this was actually assessed and confirmed while i was doing a levels). I didnt regularly drop things though and im genuinely unsure if i was unusually clumsy. I could use cutlery okay though and do buttons. Handwriting has always been readable but ive never been able to hold a pen properly. No communication difficulties.
As an adult, i cant drive , my processing speed is slowly even with daily activities, i cant follow even basic dance routines or instructions, i can do them but generally avoid shoelaces ( they always come undone), clumy according to friends but i dont necessarily recognise that and althoufh i can rwcognise left and right , i cant recognise which shoes to put on straight away ( my 3 year old dd can do it quicker than me).
I feel so fed up, as i struggle to hold down a job, cant drive and feel in adaquate.
Please can i have advice on whether paying for a private assessment is worth it. There are no nhs assessments available in my area
