Does anyone have any experience training as Air Traffic Controller?

Is there anyone on here who has trained themselves, or knows someone who’s done the training to be an air traffic controller please?

My DC is considering it as a future career to apply for in the next 5-10yrs time.

What is day to day life really like at training college? What is the workload like studying? Would you recommend it as a career? What are the good/bad things about the job?

I know the success rate is quite low and many don’t get through the training.

Thanks :)

I'll bump this for you.

There's been at least one contributor to another thread whose son is in ATC at Swanwick.

He,lo
my son is the one who is ATC at Swanwick
He’s 50 now but has been ATC since he was 21 so the recruitment process may have changed
Initially there was a written aptitude test followed by several interviews before being offered the role.
His friend also applied at the same time and was not successful. You can apply a second time, a year later I think it is, and the friend applied again but still didn’t pass the initial test.
It was then 18months at the ATC college which was in Bournemouth at the time.
That was a series of modules. If you passed the module you could move in to the next. If you failed then I think you could resit but only the once.
Initially he worked at West Drayton but then everything moved to Swanwick around 15 years ago and he’s been there since
Works a shift rotation which fits in well with family.
He is one of the most laid back people you could ever meet and doesn’t get stressed…which I think is part of why he does so well.
Salary at his level is excellent and they have a lovely lifestyle.
Still works in a team that includes people he trained with. The son of one of them has just been accepted for ATC training starting shortly.
if there are any questions you need at ask then please DM me.

I knew an ATC. Its a job you can do or you can't at its core. Its so dependant your spacial awareness to "see" in three dimensions, and having excellent health to pass the health screening.
He loved his job.
