That look where no words are required and can stop unwanted behaviour in its steps?

Yes. It involves raised eyebrows and looking over my glasses.
They know it.
ETA . They are in their 40s and 30s.

I did, now they do it to me.

I try but it's not very effective! They have responded well to rewards and consequences though, over time (not necessarily with very visible short term results).

Absolutely! Always worked with my daughter. Not so well with my son. He would say anything to anyone. He is older now and is getting better at understanding “the look”. I think he got this defect from his Dad as he is not great at understanding “the look” either.
Personally I think I do an excellent ”the look” there really should be no room for misinterpretation of what is required.

I think for it to be effective you need to be very clear in your expectations of acceptable behaviour.

My children at ND. One can’t read the look and the other doesn’t give a shit. I’ve tried but it is ineffective.

Haha, this made me laugh. I definitely had ‘the look’ my lot are grown with grandkids now, it still works. I also have ‘the voice’ 😬

I really am. My kids just seem to need something more explicit, two of them in particular.

I'm sure other people can generate a scarier "look" than me but I also think that different kids will respond in different ways.

Yep, my kids and others! They know the look, they also know they have to have really pushed me to get it as well!
