So i do the school walk with Ds its 40 mins there and 40 min back so I do 40 min ×4 . I want to do couch to 5k ds wants to as well. but I'm not sure how to fit it in. The school miles isn't enough.i also have things to do at home. I was thinking maybe weekends but it advices to do it 3 times a week. And have a rest day between each run.

The sessions only take about 30-40 mins, you could just do it straight after school, before dinner, before school if you wanted to do that instead?

It’s a small chunk of time to fit in 3 days per week :)

Hey, i have recently completed the c25k myself- it has been fantastic for me! Could you walk to school in your running gear then just run home? I do the school walk (albeit shorter than 40mins) in my leggings/ t-shirt then just start running immediately from drop off. If I went home to change it would not get done!!! Also dont think you need to do 3 a week, I did 1 some weeks, 2 others and it still worked- just slower. In a years time it won't really matter how long it took to finish it, you will be able to run well anyway! I hope you find something that works for you!

Couch to 5k is really Couch to 30 mins non stop running. Incorporating it into a school journey would be ideal if you’re happy to run with the school stuff in a rucsac.

40 min walking is about 2 miles, unless you walk very slowly.
Surely that is perfect.

Roadrunna · 15/10/2026 19:11

I didn't realise it could fit inside the 40 mins. I don't know why I thought it was over an hour. I will give it a go tomorrow

The school run will be a perfect time to do it! It averages 30-35 mins like someone says. It’s a great programme to follow.

The longest session is 36 mins. Obviously you’ll go a bit further if you are running some actions, but a 40 min walk is perfect to start C2 5K, even if you eventually end up overshooting and running back.

Running does not need to be exact sceince. Get DS a scooter and try to keep up.

Friend of ours had the exact same problem and just couldn't fit it in with family life. In the end she set her alarm for 3am, got up and did the run then went back to bed. She actually champion this way of training (I can't remember name of it now) and made a blog that went viral and is now seriously wealthy and lives in that sandbanks place

Oh wow that's fantastic. I couldn't do that though i only sleep around 5 or so hours. If i woke at 3 I wouldn't go back to sleep. Also I would shit myself out at 3 am. Others have suggested I make it as part of the school run so I will try that.

I believe Jasmin Paris (record breaking ultra marathon fell runner, vet and mum of small children) trains during the night as well.

@ShakyBakehow did she sleep after running? I have so much energy after doing exercise the last thing I want to do is sleep. Admittedly today I got up at 6am for a run then had to have a 20 min power nap at 2pm 🤣

blankcanvas3 · 16/10/2026 20:33

I run first thing in the morning before anybody else is up. About 6am

hby9628 · 16/10/2026 20:58

@blankcanvas3i do the same. My exercise is before everyone else is up. Best part of the day.

The absolute silence before a child starts screaming is bliss. I’m fairly sure the only reason I can run as far as I can is because I would add an extra km or two on so I could enjoy the peace for longer 😂
