How many steps?

I have recently started walking quite a bit. Before that I was barely walking. It was 2000 steps at most. I'm now walking outside of home. I'm doing between 15k -20k steps i have normally done 6300 by 9am it takes me 1hr 20 min. I'm not sure if thats fast enough or not? I do simlar in the afternoon.

Im thinking about doing counch to 5k with ds11 but should i be speeding up the walking first doing it in less time?

I'm also not sure how many steps i should be doing i have heard 10k but I'm not sure where that came from.

It's arbitrary. Like the vegetables per day nonsense.

15-20 is a lot for me.

Do couch to 5k if you want. I did and loved it.

That's quite an increase, well done! Do you think this will stay as a regular amount or is it something that you have pushed yourself to do before winter sets in?
The 10k steps was a number created by a Japanese guy selling his pedometer (or similar story where the figure in Japanese represented a figure walking)
You don't need to speed up before doing couch to 5k, just build up your speed as you train for it if you want to, it's the amount of movement for now, speed can come with practice. And again, well done!

Brilliant, well done! Definitely go for the couch to 5k, it's not time based at all. I'm fit and walk quite quickly and it takes me 45-50mins to do just over 6000, just for reference. Keep going, you'll get faster and fitter each week 💪

I’ve gone from 6k to 20k having retired rurally with some land. The land needs a lot of work, so there’s something to do everywhere I look. I don’t do sitting down much anymore.

That's fast I would have to double my speed to catch you up 😅

I enjoyed it more than I thought. The plan is to carry on through winter. I just need to get a decent coat . I haven't looked at couch to 5k properly yet so I shall do that. Oh and i though the 10k steps was an nhs thing

Definitely seize the moment and start couch to 5k if you fancy it. Best running advice I ever got was "You don't have to run fast". So you can just plod along running at the start.
