What can I put in the ankle bit of my new addidas trainers?

They are a bit loose at the ankles, don't want a conventional insoles. Rather I need something to make the ankle bit at the back grip a bit more.
Any suggestions?

Have you got the right size, they shouldn't be loose if laced up properly

allthemind · 14/10/2026 20:17

Heel grips, sold everywhere that sells insoles.

MigGirl · 14/10/2026 20:19

A different size or style that fits better. I have learned never to settle for shoes that don't fit right from the start as they inevitably end up causing problems with your feet.

The gel pads that diabetics use to protect their feet. Or Bunga pads, as used by ice skaters. Or bubble wrap, which is also used by ice skaters. Ask me how I know...

I'll try heel grips and do the laces more tightly, they are pretty loose right now

What style trainers have you got? Are they running trainers? Please google ‘Adidas heel lock’ which shows you the correct way to lace the running trainers. With Sambas they have 2 lace holes at the top and you can search heel lock to see how to lace the 2 holes for a tight fit at your ankle.

seahorsessky · 14/10/2026 22:39

Thicker, longer socks?

I was going to suggest this too. I use heel lock lacing on my Adidas running shoes and it makes such a big difference.

I have had to use them for years but have now found ascis trainers which are narrow at the back.

Happycow · 14/10/2026 22:51

Try the gel heel pads that go UNDER your foot - I use these and it lifts the foot so it fits better around the heel (without the faff of heel grips which invariably come off leaving glue bits everywhere)

RandomMess · 14/10/2026 22:51

I’ve just looked at the lacing techniques, I need to use 3 out of 5 😆

They are VL court bold i think
