If you could, would you erase your worst memory or relive your best one?

I have PTSD and am due to start hypnotherapy to address it and I’ve a lot of thoughts around locking into memories, both good or bad. Just interested to see what other’s thoughts are.

Erase the worst. Absolutely.

blackheartsgirl · 14/10/2026 10:37

I’d relive my best one

if i erased my worst memory I’d still be thinking my dh was still alive and be very confused going forward.

I do appreciate that everyone has very different worst memories and so I think the replies you will get will probably favour erase your worst memories.!

Relive the best one, if I loose the worst the second worst is not far behind and would just move up so I would take that golden hr I had with my 2 DC after DD was born and it was just us for a blissful moment.

For me it’s to relive the best. My worst are related to loss so I wouldn’t take them back as they make me who I am today and have taught me to try to prioritise what really matters in life.

Erase the worst.

I'm not really sure what the best one is!

I would erase my worst memory especially if I could do that when I was much younger. This memory to some extent changed the direction of my life.
I have been blessed with many good memories so wouldn't know how to choose one to relive 😃

Re-live the best.
The worst memories are those that have shaped me. The best just make me happy.

PTSD is a fucker. Love and strength kgfrio

I’m not sure what either my best or worst memories are. I don’t really think of my life in thst way, I think I’m probably very fortunate in that.

Bestbeforenow · 14/10/2026 11:19

I was able to disconnect the emotional impact of two disturbing memories. I can remember the facts but I don’t spiral into the feelings anymore.

Whoops75 · 14/10/2026 11:21

I can’t think of either!
Honestly my life is a blurr

Relive the best - one night in a dream I did and I can't tell you how light and happy I felt on waking... even when I realised it had only been a dream.

I would erase my worst memory (or memories). I've said before that I'd obliterate any link to my so-called dad, and if I could erase all memory of him, get him removed from my birth certificate and change 50% of my DNA, I would. Alas, I have had to make do with changing my name and destroying photos with him in them.

As soon as I read this my mind went to the moment I got the phone call that my best friend had died, completely out of the blue. It was the worst moment of my life but it is tied into the ensuing grief and loss of her in general. So, not sure if that is what you mean but I would absolutely love to reverse that but clearly that would mean her not dying.

If best memory??? The moments I met my babies for the first time. Yes that was beautiful, both times ♥️

Myremoteislost · 01/11/2026 09:55

Relive the best. Thankfully I haven't experienced anything too horrific in my life, so there's nothing I'd be desperate to erase.
