Has anyone sold a car on Motorway?

With the cost of living (and the huge MOT bill I am about to pay) I think its time my big old diesel was swapped for something smaller and more affordable :( I love this car but just can't justify the cost to run it now.

Its only worth a few hundred as trade in but Motorway have suggest a ball park of £1800.

Has anyone used them? If so, how easy was it and how did it go?

I did, unless your car is pristine allow a lot longer than they say to get all the photos and do the listing (think it took me about 2 hours), but was all smooth and easy after that. They do check the photos and spotted a small scratch I'd missed (it was a ten year old car and showed it), but this was good as guy who came to collect did a quick check over and did a test drive, then paid the agreed price without arguing. I used a few other sites to get a rough estimate and price paid was towards the higher end of that.

I sold my 11 year old Ford Kuga to We Buy Any Car. The whole process was quick and easy. I had taken it to a garage for a quote for part ex and the salesperson told me I would get more by not part exchanging and selling to WBAC, so I did. I was happy with the deal.

We’ve sold 3 cars through motorway in the past 8 years. Really easy process and we’d use them again.

We did and I could not believe what we got for it. I was so convinced that they would lower it when they came as it was nearly £5000 more than we were offered as a trade in but no. They came, spent 5 minutes looking at , drove around the block and the money appeared in my account before the car even left the road.
Taking the pictures is a faff though but so so worth it.

Yes sold our old car on motorway and about to sell my current using it. Super easy, it took about an hour for the payment to go through, so the lad who had come to collect it sat and had a cup of tea and a chat while we waited. Can't fault the process really, and we sold for £3k more than the garage was offering for trade in!

my experience selling a ‘luxury’ car for probate was very good. As PPs mentioned it takes quite a time to take all the pictures required. They offered £5k more than the trade in price. Knocked me down £1.25k on the spot but o was still £3.75k ahead.

also liked that the money was deposited with Motorway and both parties had to agree to release it before handing over the keys.

in a private sale to an random unknown, I wouldn’t know what to do if they just snatched the keys without paying.

since recommended them to lots of people

Yes. We buy any car is easier and quicker than motorway in my experience. Motorway is basically like a car dealers marketplace so you have to wait for someone to be interested in what you are selling. We buy any car will buy it there and then and you don’t have to take photos of it. The £1800 will be the starting price but you have to have a dealer interested, my friends husband is in the trade and he advised motorway for a more expensive car but we buy any car for something that’s not worth a great deal. Both could try and knock you down so the price they give isn’t guaranteed on either site.

We’ve just had a fairly unpleasant experience with Motorway where the dealer tried to knock about 25% off the price before meeting in the middle, on the basis of stuff we couldn’t possibly prove (eg saying it needed a new clutch). It felt exactly like what I’d hoped to avoid - someone standing on your drive pressuring you and haggling. The dealer we got wasn’t interested in the outside condition, only mechanics.

If this happens to you, don’t negotiate - get Motorway involved if you want to proceed, or just tell the dealer you’re not open to haggling and let them walk away. If they want to sort it out without Motorway involvement, that’s a red flag in my experience. We ended up getting the same price that was offered by We Buy Any Car.

I've sold several cars via We Buy Any Car, which is very quick and easy, and I've always found them very fair on price.

We did Car Wow and it was very easy. Dealer knocked off £300 when he saw our car but tbh was a fair deal

arlequin · 13/10/2026 20:35

We got £1000 more than on WBAC
