I’ve worked at my company 3+ years and very recently (week ago) I started in new role an (internal vacancy).

I have been feeling very unwell today, hard just to type this post on my phone me despite laying in bed

Really unsure if I can cope with work tomorrow if I still feel like this tomorrow. I’m just paranoid that it will give very bad message if I’m calling in sick so early on whilst new in role

work corporate office role, I’m not in senior role

Unless my head was hanging off, I wouldn't.

CrikeyNumpty · 12/10/2026 22:00

Unless you are literally at death’s door, I would not go sick. If you really are struggling perhaps ask to WAH.

ReplacingTheFilter · 12/10/2026 22:00

If you're too sick, you're too sick. They probably don't want you coming in and spreading it around either. I'm sure they'll understand. You don't choose the timing of getting sick and it's just bad luck.

Insecurepanda · 12/10/2026 22:01

Is it a virus? Are you likely to be infectious? I would be more annoyed if a new team member gave us all something bad than if she took a couple of days off

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 12/10/2026 22:01

These things happen. My husband had to call in sick on his very first day of a new job, he was in hospital. Nobody held it against him, it's just really bad luck.

bababamama · 12/10/2026 22:01

I wouldn’t be off unless I was properly sick, only you can determine that.

durdledoris · 12/10/2026 22:02

At my place we'd rather you didn't spread it around, sounds nasty

OnTheBoardwalk · 12/10/2026 22:03

Depends if you are highly infectious or not or just feeling a bit ropey

BillieWiper · 12/10/2026 22:03

Unless it's contagious id go in. Don't waste sick leave early on on minor stuff.

SirChenjins · 12/10/2026 22:03

Depends on the illness. D&V or the flu? Stay at home and keep your germs to yourself. A cold? Dose up and go in - or wfh if you can.

BibbityBoppityTwo · 12/10/2026 22:04

I hate it when people come in sick. It’s really not fair to knowingly expose other people to illness. These things happen, we’re not children, and workplaces should trust staff to make decisions about whether they are too sick to come into work, without unwarranted consequences.

CraftyNavySeal · 12/10/2026 22:12

What do you think they’re going to say?

“Ncbadfriend was an excellent employee for 3 years, so much so we gave her another role when she applied but now everyone in the entire company has forgot since she moved roles 2 weeks ago so we’re going to judge her for taking a sick day”

If I was on your new team I’d be offended that you thought of us this way

Denim4ever · 12/10/2026 22:16

This looney, is the corporate world now DP far up its own arse with arrogance that a person who is ill can't call in sick? Do we think the private sector does such amazing work that it can dehumanise people in this way?

Mapleunicorn · 12/10/2026 22:16

I manage a team. If I had someone in my team in your situation I would understand and not hold it against them. People get sick, it happens. And on week 2 you are probably still training and not involved in anything too time critical yet, so probably not a huge deal. I’m sure your new boss realises you are human.

'Critical' ? Crikey, what on Earth would anyone 'corporate' be doing that was that important?

If you're unwell, you're unwell. There's no need to be a martyr.

If you’re sick, you’re sick, you call in sick. If you aren’t, you don’t. Any good employer will respect that, and similarly see through anyone taking the piss.
