Weather in Newcastle now?

In a bit of a panic, travelling up from the south shortly and hanging out until Wednesday evening and wondering what jacket do I need? Is it too warm for a big winter parka? It looks windy and MetOffice says “feels like 13 degrees”… It’s very variable down south. 🙏🏼

Bit grey and drizzley. Maybe jacket weather?

UniquePinkSwan · 12/10/2026 14:32

It’ll definitely be windy. It’s always windy

It’s grey, odd bits of light drizzle on and off throughout the day. I’ve got a lightweight jacket on and am fine

Surely you'll stick out like a sore thumb wearing a big coat in Newcastle in mid October!

I'm "down south" and have just got my winter coat out. What about a slightly lighter coat with an extra layer you could put underneath? Or a scarf or hat?

PickAChew · 12/10/2026 14:35

I'm a few miles south and today is rather bleak, grey and chilly and a bit damp. That's changing overnight into brighter warmer and windier but still a bit damp.

Bring layers, including a waterproof. Forget the brolly. They don't survive very long up here.

Layers, with a light waterproof coat/jacket and a hat. It's the sort of weather where every time I put washing out on the line it dries quickly in the stiff breeze and then there's a sudden shower just when I think it's time to bring it in..!

Sounds similar to down here! Thanks - I’ll leave my winter parka in the wardrobe where it belongs for a bit longer xx

Of course on my morning walk there were still plenty of people in tee-shirts and shorts! (I'm a transplanted southerner and still find that alarming.)

It’s not that cold. Light jacket/coat with light knitwear underneath will be fine.
