Money help/advice

Hi all,

I really struggle with managing my own money due to adhd and autism. I make impulsive purchases leading to debts I can’t afford. I need someone to take control of my finances but need regular access for fuel/child etc. I’m unable to budget, currently my ex deals with household bills and I send him money each month. Unfortunately we still live in the same house as I’m unable to afford rent.
iv tried to work out the best option possible but it’s so confusing and complicated, is anyone able
to advise what steps I could take next? I tried to contact the citizens advice department with no luck. Thanks

When you said you had no luck with CAB, did you have an appointment? If not, a Dave to face might help and they often do sessions at GPs and other surgeries. Otherwise I would suggest Step Change or Christians Against Poverty who help with money matters

I tried to phone up but was on hold for over an hour so gave up in the end. Iv tried step change but they will only help with debts rather than trying to prevent it in the first place. I’m so stuck!

See if your cab does sessions locally - they often do these at libraries, gp surgeries and food banks for example. Might be easier to try this route

It will require you doing the budgeting, but have you tried Financielle? They have lots of anecdotes from how ADHDers who have struggled to budget have “got it” with their method.

There’s an app, a playbook and a weekly podcast. Maybe listen to a few of the podcasts to see if it works for your brain.
