Hi.
Back in 2011 I was detained under the mental heath act and spent a couple of years in hospital. During the first 9ish months I spent that time in the ipcu. I was very unwell during that time and have only small memories of the first 9 months and what led tothe police to take me to hospital ( i was in a state of psychosis at the time ) I do know i ended no where near where I lived at the time.

I have lots of questions about what happened. So decided to request my records to gain a better understanding.

What can I expect? Will it come in paper form? Would it be possible to talk to someone if I had questions etc?
I requested them 2 month's ago but have been told it's a complex case as its from a while back now and lots of information.

Thanks

You should receive copies of paper and digital notes and any letters to your gp. However you may find that there are abbreviations and jargon which make it harder to understand and there may be redactions. You won’t automatically be offered a debrief but could request a meeting with a clinician although it may not be one of those who treated you at the time.

I always find hospital notes really disappointing lots of handwritten stuff thats unreadable lots off incorrect information. Ive had paper form, digital and even cd rom for scans. I think you would struggle to speak to anyone about it after as its highly likely none off the staff are even working there anymore. I wish you luck and hope you find what you're looking for.

You’ll get them as a paper or electronic cope of the notes that were made at the time, they’ll literally print off your record and provide that so they will probably be lots of jargon and just entries of observations etc. you’ll probably see assessments that were done etc. however they aren’t obliged to do anything with them for you so no report on them or any de brief, you will just get your notes.
