Built in aircon?

We have been given £1.5k which is lovely. We don’t have debts, booked a holiday already so I was thinking about spending the money on getting built in aircon, a unit in our bedroom and unit downstairs. Do you think it’s a crazy idea / waste of money?

I think it’s a great idea if the heat is something that bothers you in the summer, £1.5k may not be enough though. We paid £5k for three rooms with two external units

I don't think it's crazy as I have it in my house. But two units, external unit and the work will cost way more than that, and if it doesn't I'd be worried about who was installing it.

Do it! Best money you'll ever spend. We think so anyway. May only get one fitted unit for that price though. We got 3 units over 2 years to spread the cost. Wouldn't be without it.

I was thinking about doing the same. This time of year is probably the time to do it rather than during the hot weather when demand goes thru the roof.

MyKindHiker · 11/10/2026 20:36

If your budget will cover it (i was quoted more than this) then of course. We’ll only have more summers like this one gone to come and being able to get one room in the house comfortable will be amazing

I live in Spain so have had aircon for years. Go, for it, its a game changer.

BeJustZebra · 11/10/2026 20:37

Absolutely not. We are getting ours fitted next week. Didnt even realise I wanted it until I saw a facebook page asking for recommendations and realised how normal it is considered
Especially after the warm summers, I can't wait for next year to sit in a cool house

fanumb · 11/10/2026 20:37

It’ll be the best money you’ve ever spent, but it’ll probably only afford you one room. It’s very efficient for heating as well.

We have some other savings to help boost. I think there’s a VAT saving until March 27, hence thinking about getting it done now.

It's life-changing in summers like we are having now. So nice to be able to escape the heat for part of the day/night.
