Travel insurance help please!

I went to the doctor about a mile which has grown recently. He referred me to dermatology, and the consultant said that the mole is not melanoma and is not cancerous. However, he will remove it anyway because there is potential for it to become cancerous.
The surgery is not urgent, and I am waiting for a date to come through - probably early next year.
Do I need to declare any of this to get travel insurance? I can’t see how to put it on the form.

Yes, you need to declare it.

I cant see 'the form'. What questions has it asked you? If unsure ring the insurance company for advice.

There is usually a question for have you sought medical treatment in last 12 months and thats where you declare it. Most travel companies asking this now. Although i think we took tui insurance and the question wasnt asked so depend on provider.

Thanks - I will give them a call on Monday. The list of medical issues doesn’t seem to give any option for a non cancerous mole, maybe it’s too nuanced for the online application form.

Of course you need to declare it. There's usually a question about whether you've seen a GP or been referred for/awaiting a referral for treatment in which you can mention it. This may prompt further questions or a referral to their medical experts at the underwriters - but not necessarily.

Give them a call on Monday, you’ve made me realise that I haven’t updated mine to say that I’m back in HRT and also to too have a benign mole that needs removing.

certain providers are more difficult than others, as a family we had to pay £58k when travel insurance wouldn’t cover a pre existing issue.

HorNouse · 11/10/2026 09:34

Definitely give them a call. Some providers won’t cover you if you’re awaiting any hospital treatment!

Sadcafe · 11/10/2026 09:34

Where travel insurance is concerned, declare everything, because you can guarantee if you dont and anything happens, they will find a reason to not pay out. A benign mole shouldn’t have any effect on cost but don’t risk it

I think you’re right, I think they exclude things related to what you’re waiting for. It’s really annoying especially with nhs waiting times.

Yes I had this issue. Had annual travel policy and because I was awaiting a minor operation (a bit like OP it was never going to affect my holiday) they wouldn’t cover me for ANY illness when I was away. Because I answered Yes to the question was I awaiting hospital treatment they told me they’d only cover me for an accident, not illness.
I went to Staysure and they covered me for everything except the thing I was awaiting treatment for
