I know I over reacted but also I was/am hurt.

DP and I share a sport. He's much better than me, but I treat it seriously and do occasionally win things in my category, so I do understand how important it is to him (and me).

He has been off his game recently, due to a self inflicted drop in fitness and people he used to be able to beat have been giving him a bit of "banter" over it. He decided a few months ago that enough is enough and he was going to get back in shape. Which he's done and today was the first competition when all was revealed.

I am unable to compete due to injury, but went along to support (both him and other team mates) and stood there for three hours

He did really well and I knew he'd be pleased. I was excited for him and expected to share that moment with him. After he finished, he walked straight past me without even acknowledging I was there, to go and banter with those he'd beaten who'd been giving him stick over his poor results.

I get that he wanted to lark about with and have a pat on the back from them, but was disappointed that he didn't also want to celebrate, even momentarilly with me.

It's only a moment I should have let it go, but isn't it usual to want to share those kind of moments with your partner? I was really upset at the time.

My colleague has a partner who does martial arts and we all now refer to it as “twatkwondo” as her partner (soon to be an ex partner id guess) and all his mates are twats!

You wrote that you overreacted but didn't say what you did?
I wouldn't stand for 3 hours for anything, but I hate sport. Take less interest in his hobbies.

Usernamesalltakenblues · 10/10/2026 18:01

To walk straight past you and not even acknowledge your presence is nothing short of downright rude. Absolutely horrible behaviour. No excuse for that.
It sounds as though he takes you for granted.

rubyslippers · 10/10/2026 18:02

Yea he was rude

I wasn't there because it's his hobby. I was there because it's my hobby and to support the team I'm usually part of (which he is also part of). If that sounds confusing it's an individual sport but you score points for the team. I'd have been competing if I could, which will be part of why I was feeling upset.

I spoiled the morning by telling him he'd upset me, and getting annoyed when he struggled to accept he'd done anything wrong.

I don't think he did anything wrong.

Topseyt123 · 10/10/2026 18:10

Still not sure what you actually did, though I would say that ignoring you was rude of him.

Lurkingandlearning · 10/10/2026 18:33

He’s a crappy partner for walking past you without acknowledging you and a crappy team member for the same reason. Doesn’t he think of you as much a valued teammate as the guys he was so keen to banter with?

PoppieCock · 10/10/2026 18:39

How long did he spend talking to them before acknowledging you?

She's upset because he walked past her when she wanted to celebrate / acknowledge his win. He didn't stop for her but went straight to his mates to crow that he'd beaten them after losing to them previously. I see her point. Sounds like he doesn't.

Besidemyselfwithworry · 11/10/2026 11:45

It all sounds very childish and pathetic I could not be arsed with any of this!!

LittlePetitePsychopath · 11/10/2026 11:51

You didn’t go to support him, but you’re upset you weren’t first stop on his victory parade?

And then you “spoiled the morning” arguing with him about it?

Yeah you were unreasonable, it’s the type of momentary frustration you swallow and don’t show when someone is celebrating. It doesn’t sound like either of you care that much, though.

Wildgoat · 11/10/2026 11:57

He was prob on a high and focused on getting to the others and didn’t think about it, unless it’s a pattern of behaviour I couldn’t get worked up

mtobrokeme · 11/10/2026 12:03

I don’t think he did do anything wrong? He lives with you I’m assuming so you could have given him your ‘pat on the back’ afterwards. No biggie.

Autumnbootcamp · 11/10/2026 12:17

Is he often dismissive of you?

If it was a one-off I'd try to let it go, especially now you've told him how you felt.
