Kids in adults only section on holiday

Do you say anything to people if this happens? Large beach, small adults only section clearly marked off. Family with kids set up camp next to us, probably because all of the other sunbeds are taken. There goes my peace. Staff have just served them drinks as well and not said anything. People just don't give a shit any more.

I would discreetly say something to a member of staff and hope they move them out. I would not confront them myself.

Several staff have seen them and not said anything. What's the point in having an adults section.

So complain (politely) to someone more senior. Don't be a wet blanket and just waste your time complaining on the Internet!

Rocknrollstar · 10/10/2026 10:48

That’s why I don’t go anywhere that isn’t strictly adults only.

MarshaMarshaMarsha · 10/10/2026 10:52

Definitely complain to manager rather than “just” the bar staff. This would piss me off!

I was once at an adults only swimming session at my local pool and the staff actually sold tickets to a family with young kids who then proceeded to splash around across the whole width of the pool so no one could actually swim lengths. The staff offered to refund my ticket but I had a membership. Which I then cancelled.

Complain to manager. It is not about peace but you may wish to have conversations that are not for a child’s ears.

I'll still do that. Their fault if they can't read the signs, or choose to ignore them.

Off you pop cunty chops..
Def complain...why would you not ?

I cancelled my gym membership last year (big chain) because they started to let young teens into our spinning classes. These teens would then get on and off the bike mid-class to go and chat with friends hanging around outside the door. If anyone has ever done spin, you'll know you can barely breathe, and these kids were just getting on and off the bikes for fun.

Of course no adult ever says anything.

In the same gym, in their wisdom they built the kids' sections/soft ball area at the very front AND very back of the ground floor entrance, so you'd have toddlers bombing up and down the entire length of the ground floor. I once got tripped up.

I gave up my membership and it was so unfortunate as I'd been looking forward to that gym being built for years.

It's hard to say something, op, as people who are cheeky enough to do what that family have done are not going to take kindly to you confronting them. Easy for people here to call you "wet blanket" but you will find yourself in a fight if you say anything. The staff well know it too, which is why they're bowing down to them.

loveawineloveacrisp · 10/10/2026 12:24

I don't understand places making rules if their staff don't enforce them. The gym thing would give me the rage as well.

Anyway we've just got back from lunch and they've fucked off. Problem solved, for now. Funnily enough our next holiday is adults only.

Our hotel this summer had an adults only pool/area that was +13. Suited us perfectly with 13y and 15y. I still felt people were looking at us funny, though sign clearly stated 13+.

Bigbumbigtum · 11/10/2026 16:59

I'm not sure about adult only areas in gyms or beaches etc, but hotels, certainly in Spain aren't allowed to exclude children, and adults only really means adults recommended. Its a bit annoying really.

Edited to add - Its annoying for the people who book adults only advertised places to then have their peace shattered by children.

Wadsworthy · 11/10/2026 17:23

Id say something as they set up politely as in “Sorry, this is an adult only section in case you might not have note sign”

And then ask staff to ask them to move.

Perimenipausalmum · 11/10/2026 17:35

How old were the children ? If they were teenagers then It wouldn't bother me, but if young children I would complete

loveawineloveacrisp · 12/10/2026 06:15

It's a 16+ area, not in Spain. Kid was about 5.

Ugh. How annoying. I'd be asking staff to remove the family, or point out the signage. Sheer ignorance or entitlement.
