How can I make this birthday night special?

DP is 40 this weekend and we’re celebrating tomorrow night. We’ll be celebrating in the house. We regularly have nights in and have a drink (usually Prosecco) and play quizzes, chess etc.

I’ve got his presents and I’m baking him a cake, but what can I do to make the night feel a bit more special than the usual night in? I’ve thought of getting champagne instead of Prosecco but if anyone has any ideas that would be great.

He won’t want anything food related.

Can you make his gifts part of the quiz/game? Like a game show or a grown up treasure hunt/escape room type thing?

Thank you. Thats an idea. He’s got several presents so might be nice to stagger them.

You could join in with a live quiz? I think Jays Virtual Pub Quiz runs on Saturday nights still (he started it in lockdown when he accidentally went live to YouTube instead of just people invited!)

Is it too late to make a play list of his favourite music to play in the background, maybe a little dancing ? Some nice chocolates or a platter of nibble things for when playing games,

put up some decorations streamers/balloons you’re never to old for those, light a few candles, make the room a little special

How about an early evening walk to the nearest nice local pub, or two.

Buy a newspaper, do the crossword, come home as the sun sets?

Or take a game to the pub?

He lives next door to a pub and a 10 minute walk from a load of pubs, but he has decided he prefers to stay in. Wouldn’t be me, but I suppose this one’s up to him.
