Asbestos in toys

Hello
im spiraling and can’t cope. I’ve just found out that my two sons played with the exact same sand filled poop toy that has been recalled because it could contain asbestos. The make and bar code were the same.

It split years ago and I threw it in the bin, but because I didn’t know there was any risk of asbestos in this type of product I just hoovered it up, there was quite a lot of sand.

Im sat here in tears and can’t cope or see a way forward as my children now have the risk of an incurable disease hanging over them. I can’t see a way to get through the next few hours or days I’m so frightened.

The risk is very small and it was disposed of a while ago. How do you know it was the same batch if you threw it all away? They will come into contact with other sorts of pollutants daily , even walking along the street or in public buildings. Do you have health anxiety otherwise and can you seek some mh support?

I had a photo of it when it was new, it was for a birthday present and there’s a photo of my child holding it. If I zoom in I can make out the label, it’s my worst nightmare

Have you spoken to anyone about how you’re feeling?

Obviously the asbestos sand stuff is not ideal but the risk of any harm is tiny, it’s incredibly unlikely your children will have any ill effects from it. There are many incurable diseases and conditions that our children could suffer from in the future but that’s outside of our control.

It feels like this has perhaps spiralled beyond reasonable into a mental health issue for you, so I would suggest seeking some support. I suspect logically you know that the risk of them getting ill from this very low but you’re stuck catastrophising. To ur children need you in the here and now, not panicking about something which almost certainly won’t happen.

Why have you got two threads about this? You are not helping yourself by seeking reinforcement for your anxious feelngs. This reaction is extreme.

I posted in general chat first then realised it might be more relevant to children’s health.
