Lockable phone pouches in school

Dc secondary school is introducing this tomorrow. Anyone got any experience? I'm thinking it's going to be one of those things that add complications, like the homework app that only works on phones.

My daughter's school started at the beginning of term. All seems pretty smooth, no dramas. If you forget it you just hand your phone in at pastoral.

My daughter’s school has the girls use Yondr pouches - is this what you mean? They seem to work fairly well but I think they are expensive to replace if you lose it. To open them they use magnetic things just outside school.

DS has them in his school. Works pretty well, he has luckily managed to not lose one yet, he hasn’t mentioned any complications upon entering or exiting the school. Not heard any other grumbles from any other parents either.

Although to be fair DS only started high school last year which is the first year they came in there, it would be interesting to hear from parents who have transitioned from no pouch to pouch.

Our school has been using them since term began in early September. No issues at all, the kids grumbled about them at first but they’ve already just accepted that this is how it is now.

My school uses them as does my children’s school. All fine. Not a problem.

We've had them for about three or four years and they're fine

DD been using them at school since the start of term. Teens are much more focussed in lessons and apparently calmer around school too. They queue to get the pouch as they go in and the teachers seal them. Same to unlock at the end of the day. If it reduces screen time and makes them more productive, I can’t see any downsides.

My DDs school have used these for two years now. No dramas that I’ve ever noticed apart from the one and only occasion that one of them forgot to unlock before they came home. They just work with very strong magnets so the school just has several unlocking stations around and the kids unlock as they leave. There’s even one outside the school building so they can go back and unlock even if school is shut.
No phones during school time is an excellent thing.

sittingonabeach · 08/10/2026 21:56

Why would it impact homework as the phone won’t be locked at home

Helpwithdivorce · 08/10/2026 21:58

We’ve had them since the start of term and aside from a few grumbling initially it’s been fine. No dramas

Used at my DD school she is in yr8. I think they’re a really good idea. Saves any messing about in class etc.

Wont lie I’ve also threatened to put her phone in it at the weekend when she was glued to it so she couldnt use it till Monday 😆works a treat! X
