and what would you do if you found packaging for a car tracker?

That a tracker had been placed in my car. You can take your car to a garage to be checked so I've read on here.

HapsburgChin · 07/10/2026 23:22

Would be somewhat puzzled as I don’t have a car.

How would you feel about the discovery initially and then after a bit of reflection?

Like finding out wtf was going on… wouldn’t you?

Well I'd assume DP had bought it given she's the only other person living here.

Then I'd tear the car apart looking for it.

The the relationship would be over, because fuck dealing with that shit.

EBearhug · 08/10/2026 00:34

I would assume that if it was for good intentions (finding the car if it's nicked,) I'd already know about it. So if I don't already know, then it's not for good purposes and trust has broken down, probably beyond repair.

GarlicEverything · 08/10/2026 00:35

I'd keep the packaging and get my car checked before tackling the person who bought it. And, supposing the tracker was in my car, the relationship would be finished.

Sorry for the delay in response.
It has been a fun few days looking all over for it and it does exist and it was in the car.
No, there has never been a discussion about putting a tracker in. The process from purchase to placement has been a secret and the packaging was discovered by accident.

Does the person who put it there know that you know?

Goditsmemargaret · 11/10/2026 15:15

I'd stick the tracker on a public bus and I'd get busy making DH my ex.

What happened OP?

Meadowfinch · 11/10/2026 15:16

I guess check your partner's car first. Maybe he's trying to protect it from thieves.

Then check your own car to see if it is attached to yours.

But to be honest, any partner with stalkerish tendencies, who is so thick he leaves the box lying around, really isn't going to be much of an adversary, is he !

Easy to deal with. Dump him immediately. Report him to the police. Move on.

Whatwouldyoudowithadrunkensailor · 11/10/2026 15:20

No they do not know. Just sitting with my thoughts about how to navigate this. It is a tricky situation as it isn't as simple as just leaving. There is no support and no one to turn to.

A secretive tracker would be a deal breaker for me.

Reading between the lines, you already know youre in an abusive relationship, or at the very least one you should know you should leave. Maybe post in Relationships for advice. Contact Womens Refuge or similar. Make a plan, it might be a slow one if thats what you need (so long as you're safe).
