Korean supermarket fun

I randomly visited a local Korean supermarket in south London with a friend over the weekend, and was rather impressed at some of the weird and wonderful things on offer. If nothing else, I now have a new way to fill an hour or two on rainy days.

Aside from plenty of Korean snacks and sweets (including some random Oreo and KitKat flavours), and some
handmade noodles, perhaps the biggest impulse purchase was a few pairs of rubber gloves!

I’m guessing this is a Korean “thing” but the smallish store had a full aisle with about 20+ different types of washing up gloves in all different colours, including some great elbow length ones for mucky chores. Having moaned before about how much I hate the marigolds that all British supermarkets now sell, it was quite the revelation.

I am planning to visit a Chinese supermarket next so curious if anyone else has any tips or recommendations from other oriental stores in the UK, or even foreign supermarkets from trips abroad?

I don't live in the UK but my local (US) Korean supermarket is H-Mart and I know they have H-Mart in the UK. I sometimes get Korean or Japanese skincare there, particularly sunscreen. I also always get inari pouches, tofu skin, ginger candy, and big tubs of kimchi. I know what you mean about there being whole aisles of rubber gloves, and also character tupperware/containers! And massive packs of Hello Kitty toilet paper.

Thank you! I haven’t been to the H mart, so that could be a fun trip this weekend.

Seaweed snacks. You can eat them like crisps and the bonus is they are very low in calories! There is usually a huge choice in Asian food shops.

The obvious one is noodles - so much variety.

Ready roasted sesame seeds are handy.

Someone I used to know recommended 'Ice Cream Soda' drink in a can which is very popular in Hong Kong.
